A few nights ago we discussed the importance of what our individual perspective should be. Corey spoke on the importance of God’s presence. As we navigate these tumultuous times where there is so much distraction, we must keep our focus on the one who rules and reigns in the heavenlies. If we do not our perspective gets blurred and will create physical, mental, and emotional confusion. This will thrust us into feelings of inadequacy and loss of purpose in life. As we close out the month of September, we will be moving into what is being called a red October. Spiritual warfare will intensify in unimaginable ways which could create casualties in the praying remnant ranks. So, what is the solution to avoid this?
PRESENCE: The existence of a person or thing in a certain place; opposed to absence
God’s presence must be emphasized as it is our moral compass of life to keep us on track to fulfill our calling and destiny. The Scriptures often speak of God’s presence in human history. The most common Hebrew term for “presence” is panim, which is also translated “face, ” implying a close and personal encounter with the Lord. The Greek word prosopon has the same semantic range. God’s presence carries a wide range of meaning. It may be something people fear. Adam and Eve’s sinfulness drove them to hide from the Lord in the garden of Eden. God’s holiness cast light on Isaiah’s sinfulness. Many people who encountered God or his angel feared for their lives. Others tried unsuccessfully to escape his presence. As God displays his presence through his great power, the whole earth trembles. False gods also become powerless before him. Fear and trembling are proper responses before the One who controls all creation. God’s presence can also be a place of judgment and covenant renewal.
But God’s presence is also a place of blessing. David counted it a joy to experience the Lord’s presence and Peter described it as the source of blessing for all who place their faith in Christ. To experience God’s presence is to experience the shining of God’s face. Believers always live in God’s presence, and he notes all their deeds. He has promised to be with us until he comes again. In the age to come, God’s presence will be the ultimate blessing, for believers will see him face to face. His immediate presence will render a temple unnecessary. It is the anticipation of this presence that should motivate Christians to faithful service in this present age God’s presence provides comfort in times of trouble or anxiety. The downcast seeks him and finds encouragement and strength to praise him.
What is the good news regarding God’s presence in the days we are in? God’s presence is a place where prayer is heard. David sought the Lord’s presence when Israel faced a three-year famine. God’s spokesman called the nation to cry out to the Lord in the face of Jerusalem’s destruction. Paul constantly interceded for the Thessalonian church, bringing their name before the Father’s presence. Christians may approach the Lord with confidence because of Christ’s finished work on our behalf. Furthermore, God promises to hear and forgive those who come into his presence with humble repentance.
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.” (Psalm 139: 7-8)
“The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.” (2 Chronicles 15:2)
“You will show me the path of life In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)
