TONIGHT’S CALL – COREY SHANKLETON WITH PASTOR PETER DRESSER!

I recently watched a movie regarding the training that our Navy Seals go through to be prepared to go into battle. Training and equipping are key components to face an enemy that opposes us. Just as a newborn child is not able to take care of their own selves, we must look at newborn “babes” in Christ with the same mentality. So, God has given us the five fold ministry which are Apostles, Pastors, Teachers, Evangelists, and Prophets to bring us to that place of maturity. What is training and equipping?

TRAINING: the action of teaching a person a particular skill or type of behavior.

The various training methods can be broadly categorized into four groups as under:

On-the-job oriented training methods…mentoring an individual personally or directly taking one under your wing.
Simulation Method…you would put an individual in a what would you do situation and see how each choice that is made would give a probable outcome whether good or bad.
Knowledge-Based Method…the Bible would be that source of knowledge where a person is self-taught.
Experiential Method…this can be the most challenging as you learn through literal life experience.

Training improves the individual’s level of awareness. It increases an individual’s skill in one or more areas of the gifts of the Holy Spirit we each have been given. These gifts enable individuals to perform their job well. The ideal training would entail all the above.

EQUIPPING: to supply with the necessary items (Holy Spirit gifts) for a particular purpose or mission/purpose God is calling you to carry out.

It to prepare someone for an activity or a task, especially by teaching them what they need to know. The Word of God is filled with life examples on what is needed to face various situations. The Bible with the promptings of the Holy Spirit is our master equipper. Obviously, no one is sent into battle who can be effective without being trained or equipped. So may we examine ourselves to see if we are up to the task where God is sending us. Ask the Lord to identify your shortcomings where the whole armor of God is in place.

The spiritual war we are now in is intensifying. There are many on the front lines and God is calling up reinforcements. Whenever one becomes born again that individual is enlisted to be part of God’s army. We who are trained and equipped must go to their side and make sure they are prepared. There are three stages in a Christian’s life: 1. Babe… 2. Young in Christ… 3. Mature in Christ. Always make every effort to align yourself with those who are mature in Christ. God has assembled his spiritual army to learn from one another as each individual faces’ different life experiences.

Finally, make it a habit to ask for oil for your spiritual lamp; grace to fulfill your calling and destiny; pray to stir the gifts within you; ask the Lord to see as He sees and hears; and to lengthen your tent pegs or occupy areas in this battle where you are fully trained and equipped to advance the Kingdom of God.

“For the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,” (Ephesians 4: 12-14)

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
