Tonight’s Call – THE CHURCH AND DIETRICH BONHOEFFER!
Who was Dietrich Bonhoeffer? What was his significance? He was a modern-day example of perseverance and tenacity. and courage. Perseverance is the character quality that few have when called to the forefront of any battle. It is being persistent despite the difficulties or delays we face. The Bible teaches us to persevere in faith, trusting God to fulfill His promises. When we face difficulties, we can trust that God understands our situation and sees our distress. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was standing for truth in the face of Nazi Germany in World War II. He called for the church to rise and few did and eventually it cost him his life. Hitler made sure he would hang before he took his own life.
Bonhoeffer recognized the plight of the Jewish persecution and called Nazi Germany and the German church out who would not stand for righteousness. He had the ability to keep doing something despite the obstacles. People who persevere show steadfastness in doing something despite how hard or how long it takes. Perseverance is a fruit of the spirit! The apostle Paul is the ultimate example of perseverance in the New Testament. No one has a better conversion story, going from killing Christians to becoming one, then Paul. Yet after his conversion, he became so on fire for the Lord that he faced many trials and persecutions. No one details this better than Paul himself in his own writings. God is raising up people like the apostle Paul and Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Tenacity is another character trait that is much needed today. Tenacity is more than endurance; it is endurance combined with the absolute certainty that what we are looking for is going to transpire. Tenacity is more than hanging on, which may be the weakness of being afraid to fail. It is a persistent determination! Tenacity is carefully assessing any challenge and making new decisions or new pathways to achieve the goal intended when he always did the work. There is a saying if you keep doing things the same way you’ll always end up with the same result. The spiritual war that we are in is going to take the five-fold ministry coming together gaining the wisdom from on high to achieve victory.
Then there is courage! How can you have courage if no fear enters the equation? We all have fears where the Bible assures us that His perfect love and care for us will cast them aside. But it still takes us personally taking the initiative to move forward in what God is calling us to. It was never meant to be easy. You have heard us repeatedly saying if it is too easy is not worth doing. So here we are today facing the challenge of losing our nation to spiritual darkness where our children and grandchildren will have no freedom. So may we seek the Lord to be strengthened to persevere, be tenacious, and have courage! Stay the course and hold the line…the victory is right before us.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking in anything.” (James 1:2-4)
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)
“You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” (Matthew 10:22)

NAMES OF GOD CHRISTOPHER HUDSON…EL – GOD!
The Hebrew word EL which is derived from a root word meaning power, Mike, or strength, is the most basic Hebrew word for god referring to pagan gods or God referring to the God of Israel, the one true God. It is rarely used by itself in the Bible. Always, it is joined with additional descriptive words for Israel’s God. Take, for example, these names for God: El Echad – one God (Malachi 2:10); El Hanne’eman – the faithful God (Deuteronomy 7:9); El Emet – God of truth (Psalm 31:5). Clearly, it takes a lot of names to describe it infinite God! But El is more than just the prefects. As stated previously, it connotes the mighty, relentless power of God. It refers to His of the Petén strain. And when combined with other names or attributes of God, it works to magnify them.
In the examples above, El Echad is not just one God– He is the one, the only God of true power and might. El Hanne’eman is not just faithful– He is relentlessly powerful in His faithfulness. Nothing can keep Him from being faithful to His own. He has more than good intentions. He will remain faithful forever. And more than a source of truth, El Emet is the all-powerful source of truth. Though we may live in a world where truth is said to be relative, God Almighty truth is an objective standard that cannot be moved. People can rail against God and call evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20) until the last day of human history. But no matter what, God cannot and will not lose the debate over truth.
Using El with other Hebrew names for God is not simply combining first and last name; his combining attributes and supernaturally powerful combinations.
QUESTION: What is your favorite attribute of God? Now place the words mightily and powerfully in front of that attribute. How does your understanding of that attribute change?
“God brought them out of Egypt; they had the strength of the wild ox.” (Numbers 23:22)
