Tonight’s Call – DECEMBER 8…LOVING THE LIVING WORD!
We must be sensitive in this season of time towards those who have lost a loved one. The Christmas season can bring back many memories of the one who has passed away. Some people can deal with grief easily, but many find it a difficult process. Grief is a strong, sometimes overwhelming emotion for people, regardless of whether their sadness stems from the loss of a loved one or from a terminal diagnosis they or someone they love to have received.
They might find themselves feeling numb and removed from daily life, unable to carry on with regular duties while saddled with their sense of loss. Grief is the natural reaction to loss. Grief is both a universal and a personal experience. Individual experiences of grief vary and are influenced by the nature of the loss. Some examples of loss include the death of a loved one, the ending of an important relationship, job loss, loss through theft or the loss of independence through disability.
This past January 9 my sister lost her husband. She has been on an emotional roller coaster ride. This holiday season is exasperating the grief she feels because of all the distant memories. You just cannot tell somebody to get over it. Sometimes it takes one walking in those shoes to understand what many go through. We must be sensitive and have compassion and be a living example of the word of God to any individual who has suffered loss. I found this message below by a pastor Greg Laurie and I shared it with my sister. She said she would listen to it. Sometimes it takes the words from someone else other than a family member. Maybe you know of someone you can share this video with.
WHEN YOU HAVE LOST A LOVED ONE:
My wife recently spent a few nights at my daughter’s, and I felt the emptiness of her not being at my side. The house was so quiet, and I felt I was getting a picture of loneliness. When you have been married for nearly 54 years it is hard to imagine that person not being there. Due to my sister’s experience, it gave me some insights regarding having compassion for those who had lost a loved one. So, may we have a great sensitivity towards those who are family or friends who have suffered a loss. During these times the mind can thrust individuals into the throes of depression and despair. May we be the encouragers and share the living word! The word of God has life, and the Holy Spirit can give the right words to speak into a person’s life you may encounter.
We have repeatedly said to stay the course and hold the line. This includes having Christ in us and extending love and mercy to all of those around us. May we not forget, culture tells us to move past this process quickly. Take a few days, weeks perhaps, to grieve, but don’t stay there too long. Grieving can make those around us uncomfortable. Friends sometimes don’t know what to do with our pain. Loved ones struggle to find adequate words to comfort our aching wounds.
Yet grief, as painful a season as it is, is a necessary part of our healing. To run from grief is to run from the very thing that can quell the pain of our loss. Our grief has a purpose if we come to God and use Bible verses and prayer for healing. Grieving is the process God uses to bring us to a place of wholeness.
” Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.: (Psalm 147:3)
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

In my church in South Africa, we published a paper in 10,000 lots. We would have the printers send them to the church, and we would lay them out on the front platform in packages of 100 and 200.
At the evening service I would call certain people from the congregation (that I knew to be in contact with the living God) to come and kneel around the packages and lay their hands on them.
We asked God to not only bless the reading matter in the paper that the message of Christ should come through the words printed on the paper, but that the paper itself become filled with the Spirit of God, just as the handkerchiefs became filled with the Power of God. (Acts 19:12.)
I could show you thousands of letters from people in all parts of the world, telling me that the Spirit of God came upon them when they received our paper. Not only were they healed, but the joy of God came into their hearts, and many were saved. One woman wrote from South America: “I received your paper. When I took it into my hands, my body began to vibrate, so
I could hardly sit on the chair. I did not understand it. I laid the paper down, and after a while took it up again. As soon as I had it in my hands, I shook again. The third time I picked up the paper, the Spirit of God came upon me so powerfully, I was baptized in the Holy Ghost.”
