Priesthood Breastplate Prayer – Bishop Larry Jackson
Bishop Larry Jackson (www.betheloic.com) once a keynote Promise Keeper speaker has initiated what is being called “breastplate prayer”. This prayer application will revolutionize the church and transform any city or region. We are all priests of God if we have repented of our sins and have faith in Jesus Christ (Revelation 1:5-6). What we must realize as New Testament believers is that the priesthood has changed but not the order of approach. The shed blood of Christ is what allows you to come before Him.
The Old Testament priest wore a breastplate with 12 precious stones representing the 12 tribes (Exodus 28:21, 29, 39:14). There were four rows of three stones and the priests would stand in the gap for the nation of Israel before God. Initially, God desired the whole nation to be a kingdom of priests. Each stone represented a tribe in Israel. Why not place 12 people on your spiritual breastplate and pray for these 12 individuals daily. The top row would be for unsaved family members, the second row of three would be for friends and acquaintances, the third row for those in the workplace or neighborhood where you live and the fourth row for people you would never meet or encounter. This could revolutionize a church if all attending would take up this practice. This initiative would transform a city, county or a state if numerous churches participated across any region.
What if every church took this prayer strategy to heart? Every person in the nation would be covered in prayer. Jesus Christ changed the priesthood (Psalm 119:4). Jesus Christ is that new priest after the order of Melchizedek. All who are born again through Jesus Christ have been made priests of God. Jesus sits on the throne at the right hand of God in heaven interceding for us. The people in the pews have been misrepresented as laity and a special clergy class has formed. The people in the church must be released in their priestly duties to bring up before God daily those people that were placed in their sphere of influence. We all share in the responsibility as being New Testament priests. There is no longer a special class of priests as Jesus changed the law.
“If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come – one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law.” (Hebrews 11:7-12)
Where are the New Testament priests to be released today in the highways and byways of society? The cultural gateways (Seven Mountains) in society must be impacted by this army of priests who are to offer up spiritual sacrifices (our prayers and labor in the Lord – Isaiah 2:2). This army must engage the family, church, governmental, educational, business, media, and entertainment realms. We are Gods priesthood today!
What are these spiritual sacrifices? Prayer for the lost that God has put in your path. Again, place 12 people on your spiritual breastplate and pray for these 12 individuals daily. Do not tell them and when one gets saved you put another individual on your breastplate in his/her place. Your rewards are in heaven. This does not mean you are not to pray for others but instead are targeting these 12 and filling a bowl in heaven with your prayers. Be patient! Ask God and He will reveal to you assigned individuals that you will specifically pray for.

Revolutionizing the Church
This could revolutionize a church if all attending would take up this practice as you are a Priest of the Lord (1 Peter 2:4-5, Revelation 1:5-6). Breastplate prayer could transform a church, city, county, or a state. A church of 100 would now be a church of 1200 as you stand individually for the 12 on your breastplate. You are bringing them to church with you. The pews of the church will be released in a new sense of prayer for the lost. The church will have regained its authority through pro-active prayer as we are kings!
“To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever.” (Revelation 1:5-6)
As you praise and worship the Lord on a Sunday morning, visualize these people’s faces in your mind and lift them up to the Lord to be saved. The pastor could take time for breastplate.
Point to Ponder: “Eighteen-year-old Hudson Taylor wandered into his father’s library and read a gospel tract. He couldn’t shake off its message. Finally, falling to his knees, he accepted Christ as his Savior. Later, his mother, who had been away returned home. When Hudson told her the good news, she said, “I already know. Ten days ago, the very date on which you tell me you read that tract, I spent the entire afternoon in prayer for you until the Lord assured me that my wayward son had been brought into the fold.” He became the famous missionary to China and founder of China Inland Mission which birthed over 800 missionaries.
