SOLDIERS OF THE CROSS
Christians are in a spiritual warfare. The devil, the world, and the flesh are real enemies. These spiritual enemies are out to destroy the testimony and effectiveness of the believer. The enemy will seek to take you out or make you a prisoner of war. Thus, we are called upon to be good soldiers for the war. We are called to be good soldiers of Jesus Christ. We are enlisted as His soldiers. We are dedicated to His cause. The flag we wave is the flag of Heaven. Those around us should have no questions about our loyalty as His soldiers.
“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.You therefore must endure[a] hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops.Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.” (2 Timothy 2: 1-6)
Paul told Timothy to endure hardness. Enduring hardness means we should not allow ourselves to become easily discouraged. It means we are prepared for conflict at all times of the day. This means in the wee hours of the morning or late in the night. It means we should not back down from the threats of the enemy. It means we will not allow the casualties around us to make us quit. A good soldier does not think about quitting! Paul said, “No man that wars entangles himself with the affairs of this life.” A good soldier is not distracted by all the things going on in this life. His focus is to represent the Lord Jesus well in the conflict and to make sure He wins. Distractions could result in being hit by a fiery dart of the wicked one. Distractions could make us the target of a spiritual assassin. Distractions could cause us to turn our backs and become vulnerable to satanic attacks.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:10-13)
Our number one priority as soldiers is to please the Lord! God is most pleased with us when we follow our orders, we are diligent at our post, we are vigilant as watchmen, we are loyal to our cause, we fight to win, and we are steadfast at all times. Being a good soldier requires effort. We must realize that we are not called to be part time soldiers.
We do not wrestle with, “Flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12).
Let us go onward and forward for the cause of Christ! Lift His royal banner and do not let it suffer loss. Let it be known we are in the Lord’s army, and as His soldiers we are earnestly contending for the faith once delivered to the saints. We have numerous intercessor veteran soldiers who have labored in prayer over decades. We not only must honor them but encourage them in this day to stay the course and hold the line. They are the hidden remnant ecclesia! They are spiritual warriors and soldiers in Christ!!!
There are three key questions we must always consider in any war:
1. What is happening?
2. What is not happening?
3. What must we do?
The Lord will order and direct our steps to answer all three of these.
“Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me.” (Psalm 119:133)

BIOLOGY – European blackbirds are able to live through the cold German winters because they are designed with the God-given instincts and features. To cope with the winter cold, the birds fluff up their feathers. This creates more insulating dead air spaces between their warm bodies in the cold air. Then they tucked their heads inside their feathers, making their bodies into a bowl. A round ball is the most conserving shape possible. The ball also protects poorly insulated parts of their bodies like feet, legs, and beak. The bird’s need for energy is five times greater at 20°F below zero than it is during the summer. So the blackbirds reduced their energy needs by lowering their body temperature at night when they are curled into a ball. As a result, scientists have found that eastern European blackbirds are in no danger of freezing, even during extremely cold winters. The design of their feathers, the ability to change their metabolism, and the instincts which allow survival in low temperatures all point to the intelligent design of birds.
