History of Memorial Day
It began as an event called “Decoration Day,” held at the dedication of Arlington National Cemetery. It honored Civil War Union soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Now, people widely observe it as a legal holiday to honor all members of the United States military who died in service to our nation. People observe Memorial Day on the last Monday of May and mark it with military services, parades, and speakers. The President observes Memorial Day by making a call for people of all faiths to pray for permanent peace. Designated as a federal holiday, many enjoy the long weekend as the unofficial beginning of summer. Memorial Day is also a fitting day to pray for those who are serving now. Pray for their safety and health, the families separated during deployments, and the chaplains who minister to our soldiers.
Honor the Spiritual Warriors of today and the past as well this day! The Biblical values of sacrifice, honor, and freedom found in God’s Word are worth remembering and highlighting as they apply to those who made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country. May we recognize the many missionaries, pastors, ministries, people at the grassroot level who are fighting daily.
“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of eternal life…” Paul uses battle language to encourage Timothy in spiritual perseverance. The “good fight” is about staying faithful to Christ amidst trials, holding on to eternal hope with determination. In our spiritual walk, we often face a significant inner battle. The struggle between our desires and our commitments to faith can sometimes feel overwhelming.nRemember…“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” This verse was spoken to the Israelites at the Red Sea. It reminds us that sometimes, our greatest strength comes from standing still in faith. God doesn’t always ask us to fight; He often steps in to fight on our behalf, displaying His power when our strength runs out.
“Pay to all what is owed to them…respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.” (Romans 13:7)
This verse above takes on a special meaning on Memorial Day, which is a time to give honor where it is due — to the fallen heroes who are often unsung and underappreciated.
STAY IN THE FIGHT! – Danielle Dixon –
I sensed that the Lord is waking up His Body. He’s awakening us to what lies ahead—the greater glory. The Lord began to speak, saying that there has been a contention for new territory. With that has come intense pushback from the enemy against the people of God through unexpected health issues, financial setbacks, family divisions, strange accidents, doctrinal deception, and more. I heard the Scripture “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8 ESV). Then I heard the Lord say, “Many of My leaders and forerunners are drunk, not with wine but with hopelessness, discouragement, and indecision.”
There truly is a devil prowling like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. But Jesus has given us the antidote for this season: Stay sober. The word “sober” means to make or become more serious. I believe the Lord is calling us to become serious—serious about breakthroughs, serious about driving out the enemy, serious about hope, faith, and taking back our land.
I asked the Lord about what we’ve been seeing in the Body of Christ. He reminded me of a spiritual insight He gave me many years ago. It’s found in Revelation 12:12: “He [the devil] is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short” (NIV, brackets mine). The Lord showed me that one of the enemy’s strategies is to send out spirit watchers on assignment to disrupt marriages, health, finances, and unity, trying to hinder the work of God.
While interceding recently for our region, I clearly saw in the spirit what chaos had been released in the airways over our churches, families, and leaders. As I was led to cancel these assignments and command these spirit watchers to return to where they had come from, I released the angels of God to wage war on our behalf. Instantly, I saw a vision of that spirit fleeing into the mountains.
Rule in the Midst of Your Enemies
Let me remind us: There are more for us than against us. We are in a spiritual war, but it’s a war that’s already been won. We must continue to take back the ground the enemy has tried to steal. Let’s command increase in our land, strike the ground for harvest, and plead the blood of Jesus over regions and nations.
This is the hour where we’ll see the enemy retreat, atmospheres shift, and the prayers of the saints answered. Stay sober-minded and vigilant. We are the glorious Church, without spot or wrinkle. We must wake up and exercise the authority we’ve been given to rule in the midst of our enemies.
“The LORD will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying, ‘Rule in the midst of your enemies!'” (Psalm 110:2 NIV)

HONORING ALISON LORKOWSKI – SANCTITY OF LIFE PROJECT – WHAT IS THE PLAN?
We will produce approximately a 40 page, four-color, high-gloss, 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 booklet that can be used by churches, university campuses, and individuals to promote the pro-life cause. Presently, Michigan is a death state. We can turn this around and turn Michigan into a pro-life state where it can be called pure again. The killing of the unborn is foundational to all of our state and national problems. We need to provide knowledgeable tools to be utilized to promote the life message. We will do an initial printing of 10,000 copies. We will not charge for them but give them out freely to churches, ministries, young people, and individuals across our state. We want to impact our young people especially, youth leaders in High School and universities. Of course, the body of Christ must take the lead in churches. Congregations must be activated to share with their sphere of influence. We declare it is a new day in the Pro-Life movement in Michigan! Who will rise up and defend the unborn?
