Discernment is the ability to judge well. In these times we need the Holy Spirit to give us direction as so many decisions need to be made as we move forward in this attempted destruction of our nation. People who are discerning can make keen observations about things. … Being discerning also often involves making a judgment, especially about things that aren’t obvious. Practice entering a conversation with God about the little things in your life. Practice learning to listen – He may not speak to you like He speaks to others. Don’t expect to necessarily be able to hear immediately if you’ve never listened before.
The Lord is our spiritual compass! He is our radar screen where He identifies incoming difficulties. Remember to pray regularly; seek companionship of the Holy Ghost. Study the scriptures, apply them in your life; seek gospel understanding. Act on promptings; exercise gifts in all areas of your life. Be obedient; live the gospel daily so you are familiar with that “still, small voice”. We all can discern the times.
How to practice listening in prayer to hear that small voice!
- Come to God with your request for guidance. …
- Wait in silence for God to speak for 10-12 minutes. …
- Jot down any Scripture, songs, impressions, or pictures God gives you. …
- Share how God spoke to you with others you trust, maybe a prayer partner and follow God’s will.
“Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding,If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;” (Proverbs 2: 3-6)
“Then He also said to the multitudes, “Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it is. And when you see the south wind blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is. Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?” (Luke 12:54)
