Today, I wanted to reemphasize the importance of gratefulness. There are so many negative things that we can dwell on which can send us into an emotional tailspin. Have you ever been around an individual who sees all the things that are wrong?

This type of attitude can literally suck the joy out of a person’s life. We who are in Christ need to carry the light of optimism with the joy of the Lord as our strength. Begin to dwell on those things you are grateful for. Physiologically this mindset ultimately will improve your health. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and our bodies will react physically, emotionally, and spiritually to what we dwell daily.

GRATEFULNESS: Refers to the quality of being thankful and a readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. Throughout life’s trials and blessings, displaying a general attitude of gratitude distinguishes the Christian from those who do not know Christ. It also makes you a lovely person to be around!

WAYS TO SHOW GRATITUDE:

1. Be an active listener; 2. Give out compliments; 3. Make eye contact: 4. Give a detailed example of appreciation; 5. Be thoughtful of others; 6. Volunteer for unpleasant tasks; 7. Give a hug; 8. Just be there; 9. Be gracious when challenged; 10. Offer congratulations; 11. Exhibit Patience; 12. Select small, thoughtful gifts; 13. Write handwritten notes of thanks; 14.Handwrite thinking of you letters; 15. Handwrite letters of encouragement; 16. Write a love letter; 17. Be a support to those who need help; 18. Perform a random act of kindness; 19. Pay it forward; 20. Be willing to say your sorry!

Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships. We must remember that being grateful is about appreciating what one has, as opposed to what one wants. Being thankful or thanking someone often implies you are acknowledging your thanks for something that someone has given you. Consider writing down the list of all the things you are grateful for and may remind you when a challenge comes your way.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4: 6-7)
