We live in a season of repeated WARNINGS! Life is filled with warnings. Warnings are given that we may avoid disaster. But they can thrust our “thought cycles” into much discouragement and despair. So, are warnings a good thing? Can we view warnings as a blessing? YES, as you can look upon them as an act of love, especially when they come from the Lord.

What is a warning?

WARNING: It is a notice, a bulletin that alerts the public to an imminent hazard. It describes something that alerts to possible danger. An example of warning is a tornado siren, a warning siren.

How can warnings be an act of love? We should be thankful when a tornado, flood, hurricane, or adverse weather warnings are given. It gives us an opportunity to prepare. When warnings come from God it is because He loves us where we can draw to him closer and receive the protection of Psalm 91. Within these warnings, God many times offers the opportunity to turn back a coming devastation. Remember the story of Nineveh where people repented after a warning was given by Jonah a prophetic voice.

Jonah said in 40 days the city would be overthrown. But the people were brought to repentance, and they fell on their faces before God and disaster was averted. What about Noah? Noah warned the people that they must repent, or they would be destroyed by floods. Not only did the people refuse to follow Noah’s counsel, but they also became angry and wanted to kill him. May the story in the book of Genesis be a valuable lesson to us. As we tried to warn family and friends, you may face anger and opposition as well. This does not negate our responsibility to warn people. Again, it is an act of love!

Many times, a warning does not culminate in a storm. Before warnings are given out the weather service for example will utilize the term WATCH. Spiritually today, we have prayer watchmen on the wall who are given insights of what possibly to expect. One of the fivefold ministry gifts is the office of a prophet. In the present season of time, we are in, nationally known prophets have given us many warnings because they have been watchful in their prayer closets. After we receive these warnings, we must be careful and be anchored in the Lord Jesus Christ. If not, a perception can overtake you which brings panic, fear and can thrust you into a “Rabbit Hole” that destroys one’s faith.

RABBIT HOLE: To stumble into a bizarre and disorienting alternate reality. It is a bizarre, confusing, or nonsensical situation or environment, typically one from which it is difficult to extricate oneself.

How do we avoid these rabbit holes? The Scripture is very clear: we must align our thought life with the hope that is in God’s word. This can be difficult to do when the world around us is swirling in such a way to take many downs to the depths of despair. The good news is that God has made a way of escape for each one of us so we can be a help to those around us. The CROSS in the shed blood of Christ is the answer! We must not avoid hearing what the present-day warnings given by the prophets. We have been given the authority to prophesy, declare, and speak life into those situations where the enemy is trying to destroy us. May faith arise in each one of us.

“Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying,“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.” So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in extent. And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day’s walk. Then he cried out and said, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” (Jonah 3: 1-4)

“Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.” (Colossians 1: 28-29)

“When I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.” (Ezekiel 3: 18-22)

“For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?” (1 Peter 4:17)
