Tonight’s Call – ROSEMARIE WRIGHT…WHAT ARE YOU CLINGING TO?

What are you clinging to or building on as we move through a tumultuous season of ups and downs? As an anchor can hold the boat, we need something steady which enables us to hold the line and stay the course. Jesus is our ROCK. This term shows God’s strength. A large rock is silent and strong just like the Lord. This rock can provide security, a fortress in place of protection. We can hide upon a rock when being pursued by enemies. People think of rocks as strong, solid, and unchanging. To call a person a rock means the same thing. That person is someone you can always rely on to help and support you.

What are we clinging to or building on? Obviously, Jesus our Lord the ROCK is the only choice. We will cling or build on to the ways of the world or God. The world attempts to capture our emotions where choices become overly dependent on man solutions. Only Christ and the gospel He came to represent is a sure foundation we must build on. There are so many traps set by the enemy of our souls to take us away from these basic truths and lean on our own wisdom and understanding. We must be very careful what we build on. Bedrock was always the preferred foundation. It provides any structure stability from the ground. We are God’s house or temple.

May we continually remind ourselves to build a godly foundation which is to obey and follow. We must keep our focus on what is excellent and true, following God and staying in Him will keep our foundation strong and crack free. Every house is built on something so we must build our house, our lives, on a godly foundation–Jesus Christ the chief cornerstone. Faith in Christ lies at the foundation of Christianity. It is the foundation of our hope for remission of sins, and for exaltation after death, and the for the resurrection from death to everlasting life. Clinging to the world’s ways will bring death and destruction.

“Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7: 24-27)

For over a decade, Chevrolet sold millions of trucks using the slogan like a rock. It’s not hard to see the appeal. Rocks are solid, protective, and durable, long-lasting and strong. A giant rock like Gibraltar symbolizes everything we wish we had in life: steady beliefs, security, a solid marriage, firm finances, a stable job, and enduring friendships. By nature, though, all earthly things fail. Rock like friends and families disappoint. Solid blue-chip companies have layoffs. Foolproof financial plans go south. And, yes, even the best trucks eventually wear out! Given enough time, all are strongest and biggest rocks whether both literal and metaphorical disintegrate.

All except for one: the Divine Rock. When God identifies Himself using the image of a rock, He’s contrasting the infinite, internal security He provides with the shifting sands of man-made rock substitutes. Notice how David amplifies his word picture. Because God is a rock, we can find refuge in Him. In other words, we can run to Him and hide in Him. And when we do, we are safe (Proverbs 18:10). David wasn’t just using this example because it conveyed God’s strength; He knew the truth from real-life experience. He spent more than a decade trying to stay one step ahead of the murderous King Saul. For years David took shelter behind real boulders, and he spent countless nights in stony caves across the Judean wilderness. Despite a lot of scary moments, David was always safe in God’s hands.

Centuries later, Jesus would highlight the profound difference between God’s kingdom and the kingdom of this world using rock and sand imagery (Matthew 7:24-27). His point? When we build our lives on the shaky foundations of money, beauty, social status, and the multitude of early trappings, we’re likely a sandcastle bill to close for the water’s edge. But when we humbly trust God, standing on His character and His truth, we find an earthly stability, power, wisdom, supernatural comfort, and security– even amid great turmoil and uncertainty. God is our rock, everything else is sand– or quicksand!

QUESTION: What comes to mind when you consider God as your Rock?

MICHOP LEGISLATIVE PRAYER TEAM …VISION CASTING 2023

1. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 instructs the church to pray for our leaders who are in rule over us. This Prayer Team vision will be to mobilize intercessors who will cover each one of the Michigan elected officials in Lansing Executive, congressional, house, senate, judicial elected officials, 175 appointed individuals.

2. Each person who chooses to take on this assignment to become a personal intercessor for the elective official must live in the representative’s district.

3. The Prayer Team goal is to build a relationship and rapport with their assigned elected officials. This will take place by personally meeting with their legislator either in their county or in Lansing; receiving the names of the family such as their mate, children, and staff members to pray for them by name.

4. These MICHOP Watchmen/Intercessors will commit to supporting our leaders by praying for Godly wisdom and direction in their daily lives and decision for our state

5. Our goal is to see the atmosphere of oppression and darkness lifted in Lansing as we faithfully blanket our governmental leaders with prayer.
