Tonight’s Call – COREY SHANKLETON…THE NATURE OF THE BATTLE!

The nature of the battle we are in is spiritual. So, we must look for an advocate to act on our behalf or one who pleads our case, who helps us by defending us and one who comforts us. It was a name given by Jesus Christ three times regarding the Holy Ghost. We certainly need a comforter at this time. May we gain a deeper understanding of the importance of having an advocate.

ADVOCATE: A person who publicly supports or recommends a particular case or policy.

This is why Jesus says the Holy Spirit is our advocate and will teach us everything we need to know to remind us of the truth that our Lord taught us. The Holy Spirit is also our advocate because He can refute the evils, ignorance and misunderstandings that other people may have about us, and about God. We keep reminding everyone the days ahead are going to be historic and Biblical. Jesus sent that comforter for times such as this.

Jesus Christ is our advocate with the father which again means one who pleads for another. The Savior pleads for us, using understanding, justice, and mercy. Knowing this can fill us with love and gratitude for his atonement. We need the rule of law to come back into our nation so our appeal through these advocates must be done in the courts of heaven. We worship, praise, declare, and decree in faith that our appeals are filling the bowl in heaven where they will spill over in which justice will prevail over our land. Christian advocacy seeks to bring justice to those facing violence, poverty, and discrimination, and help more of God’s children experience life in all its fullness.

The Lord uses human advocates such as Moses, Daniel, Nehemiah, Nathan the prophet and Esther. They were used to secure the freedom of Israel. What about the apostle Paul? God has called forth today through the fivefold ministry human Holy Spirit led advocates. God has called advocates in all the cultural gateways of society today. The key to their effectiveness is how well they are linked to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God has chosen each of us to be an advocate in our sphere of influence or those who surround us in our lifecycle to bring them into God’s kingdom purposes. It is impossible to stay the course and hold the line without our heavenly advocates behind us.

We must speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all or destitute. We must speak up and judge fairly, defend the rights of the poor and needy and in those areas where personal and religious freedoms are being torn away. May we be determined never to give up no matter the pressures that come upon us in so many forms.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

“But the advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26)

“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ the righteous;” (1 John 2:1)

Sometimes we need an advocate. An advocate is someone who stands by your side and fights on your behalf. A child in the ICU, for example, needs an advocate, someone who will work tirelessly to make sure the child gets the necessary care. An advocate reminds medical personnel of the patient’s history, prior conversations, and consultations. Sometimes that advocate must firmly encourage hospital administrators to keep promises for insurance companies to honor a claim.

Sometimes, however, we need an intercessor. An intercessor is a go-between of a different kind. While an advocate fights on behalf of people who can’t fight for themselves, an intercessor fights for the people who don’t deserve an audience with the other party. Because God, our heavenly Father, is holy, and we are unworthy due to our sin to ask Him for anything, we need an intercessor. The New Testament assures us that when it comes to that topic, we are well covered. Jesus intercedes for us. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the spirit in Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans (Romans 8:26).

Who else could possibly be our intercessor? What other beings are wholly enough in their own right to stand before the throne of God and plead our case? In a strange twist of history and theology., God the son and God the Holy Spirit became the intercessors we need before God the father. Because nobody else would be able to meet these needs, God Himself became our advocate, intercessor, and Savior.

QUESTION: Where do you find it comforting to know God is your intercessor?

“Therefore He is able to completely save those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.” (Hebrews 7:25)

MICHOP LEGISLATIVE PRAYER TEAM …VISION CASTING 2023

1. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 instructs the church to pray for our leaders who are in rule over us. This Prayer Team vision will be to mobilize intercessors who will cover each one of the Michigan elected officials in Lansing Executive, congressional, house, senate, judicial elected officials, 175 appointed individuals.

2. Each person who chooses to take on this assignment to become a personal intercessor for the elective official must live in the representative’s district.

3. The Prayer Team goal is to build a relationship and rapport with their assigned elected officials. This will take place by personally meeting with their legislator either in their county or in Lansing; receiving the names of the family such as their mate, children and staff members to pray for them by name.

4. These MICHOP Watchmen/Intercessors will commit to supporting our leaders by praying for Godly wisdom and direction in their daily lives and decision for our state

5. Our goal is to see the atmosphere of oppression and darkness lifted in Lansing as we faithfully blanket our governmental leaders with prayer.

It is through worship, preaching and teaching, challenging testimonies, and gifts and outpourings of the Holy Spirit where we will see victory.

We need to hear the voice of the Lord as we go into this year of 2023. We must have God strategies in our man in the only way to attain this is through unadulterated prayer, praise, and worship.
