Tonight’s Call – MARK GURLEY WITH BOB WEINER…RELEASING THE GIFT OF FAITH!

The gift of faith displays God’s power in ways that create joy and encouragement for others. Through faith, Moses charged bravely into many situations that should have led to death. Every time he dared to step forward on nothing but God’s promise of protection, miracles and ensued. We are in such a time as this where they get the faith must be activated. People with a spiritual gift of faith are on unshakable and the reliance on God’s promises and are a source of encouragement for the rest of us when we feel like giving up on God or think that God has given up on us. People with this gift have such great confidence in the power and promises of God that they can stand strong in their belief, no matter what may try to shake them. They can also stand up for the church and for their faith in such a way as to defend and moving forward.

We also have nine fruits of the spirit. Faith is included. So, faith is of the utmost important to the disciple of Christ. The gift of faith is given to believers by the Holy Spirit. It is a supernatural faith that operates from God directly through you. It works in tandem with many of the other spiritual gifts, especially the gift of knowledge. Like every spiritual gift, the gift of faith is designed to edify and encourage believers. How can you make the gift of faith come alive in your life? We need to regularly examine our faith as introspection is essential; find inspiration in Biblical figures; seek the Lord in prayer; connect with like-minded faith-based people; make a point to do good in the world and show compassion. Our faith can lead us to do good works, obey the commandments, repent of our sins and help us overcome temptation as well.

Faith comes from hearing and hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). We each have been given a measure of faith! Faith becomes active and effective when it is built on a strong foundation of accurate answers, which is truth. When you believe in the integrity of that truth, when you trust in their truth, and when you are hearing that truth on a continual basis your faith will be activated. We all have been called to live out our faith publicly. We must be concerned about social issues that involve a Biblical worldview. Talking about Christ to our sphere of influence and walking in repentance is an example to those around us. The Lord will always open up doors of opportunities as we deal with people around us who have activated the gift of faith. As I said earlier, the times we are in will require the releasing of the gift of faith.

“For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” (Romans 12:3)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5: 16-25)

WHO IS BOB WEINER: Bob Weiner is the founder of the Maranatha Church network in America. He is also one of the original board members of Morning Star Ministries. A popular personality test compares people to animals. According to the profile, you’re either like a lion him, and otter, a beaver, or a golden retriever. According to the Bible, however, the creature we are most like– all of us– is a sheep. It’s not exactly a flattering comparison. Sheep are notoriously dimwitted. They will eat deadly herbs if you don’t watch them carefully. Or they don’t panic and wandered straight into danger. That’s double trouble when it happens because sheep can’t defend themselves against predators.

Thankfully we are like sheep and is true– we are, God is like a shepherd. This is the great idea of song 23, the world’s most beloved Bible passage. In it, David, the former shepherd, shows how God faithfully tends to all our needs. The primary meaning of shepherd (Raah) is to feed, 210, to lead the pastor. To do all this, a shepherd must be up close and personal, intimately aware of the needs of His sheep. Also, a shepherd is the protector of His flock. This is why He carries a rod– to find predators that would harm even one of His Rams, ewes, or lambs. If all that is what a shepherd does, what is the job description of sheep? Easy. A sheep trusts that shepherd. As sheep, we follow.

We go where are shepherd leads. We do what He tells us to do, we look to Him to supply all our needs. When we follow our own instincts and go our own way, we show disrespect to our shepherd. We are saying we don’t trust Him. We also demonstrate arrogance in saying we know better about how and where to find green pastures. What’s more, by leaving His protective care, we open ourselves to unnecessary dangers. Even more, we could lead others astray, even if we don’t mean to. When you say, “God is my Shepherd”, you are humbly admitting, and gratefully and unashamedly acknowledging, that you need the Lord to guide you and meet the deepest needs of your life.

QUESTION: in what ways has God been a good Shepherd to you?

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:1-3)
