We are in a season where God is stripping off what is old to bring in the new. This is a time which can be defined as a passage or crossing. God in His wisdom appoints transition as a time for us to process what is taking place. He gives us the time we need to adjust, while pointing to what is to come. During these times, we know Him as our comforter, father, and friend. The church in transition is undergoing a transformation at this very moment.
TRANSITION: The process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another.
It entails ending something or letting go of what was a standard. It is a new beginning to embrace a needed change. Any transition needs time to reflect on the need to change. There must be communication and collaboration where we stay positive and proactive. It must be flexible and willing to look at and embrace mistakes. The purpose and meaning of the transition must be explained properly. Vision must be established where the means to the end is defined. This transformational process entails deep changes within individuals as they are touched by the Holy Spirit and they mature looking back at past experiences. Leadership structures in the Ecclesia will take place. A pioneering movement will take place where settlers (people who are in the status quo of church life) may find it difficult to move with this wind of change. Transitions will manifest when the whole world seems like it’s falling apart, all hell can seem to be breaking loose, wave after wave of tests will make you feel like you’re being engulfed with hopelessness.
In times of change, we usually become fearful or anxious because we’re not sure of what is going to happen or how everything will unfold. We can rest in the truth knowing that God does have a plan for us and that He will lead us on the right path when we place our trust in Him. God always has better plans than we can improvise. When He closes the door, he paves the path towards a new way! The church of today has issues where God is in the process of correcting due to the times and seasons, we are in. Never forget that transition is a beautiful season when God strips off what is old to welcome the new.

Few things are as terrifying as a massive wildfire. In the face of a raging inferno, there’s nowhere to hide, nowhere to run. Often our most sophisticated firefighting tools are impotent. So when God describes himself in Scripture as a consuming fire, it’s enough to make us sit up and pay attention. What does this mean? Why would God say such a thing? God first revealed that He is a consuming fire when insisting that His people worship Him alone. God gave Himself the name Jealous (Exodus 34:14). He’s not okay with us using Him for what we can get, then turning around and giving our hearts to other things. God wants us for Himself– not because He’s insecure or needy, but because it’s obscene and absurd for creatures to reject their perfect Creator in favor of something less.
And yet we are all guilty. We turn away from God and look elsewhere for salvation and satisfaction. Therefore the Bible is full of fiery imagery– fire typically represents judgment. God, in His holiness, must judge sin. Throughout the Old Testament, we see fire consuming rebellious people in judgment (Leviticus 10:2; Numbers 11:1; Deuteronomy 9:3; 2 Kings 1:10-14). The fact that God is a consuming fire would be terrible news if not for Christ. On the cross, Jesus willingly endured the full wrath of God’s righteous judgment against sin. He took the fiery punishment we deserve. As a result, those who trust in Jesus no longer must worry about a consuming fire of God’s judgment. In Christ we are forgiven.
For believers, God becomes, as it were, a different kind of consuming fire– He’s a purifying fire. At salvation, He consumes our sin and guilt. Then for the rest of our lives, God purifies and transforms us, through His indwelling spirit, in the same way impurities are burned away during the refining process of gold. We see a picture of this in the Old Testament as God dramatically removes negative influences from within the Hebrew camp (Numbers 16). It comes down to a choice; Either we trust the God who is a consuming fire to consume our sin and guilt in Christ, or we rebelliously reject Christ and experience the consuming fires of divine judgment.
