Tonight’s Call – JEWISH FEASTS/PASSOVER!
This coming weekend we as Christians celebrate how Jesus came, died and rose again. It is a season of joy and hope. It is also a reminder of God’s love. Jesus was crucified by the Romans and died in roughly 30 A.D. The resurrection in my view is the most important event in human history. Jesus rose from the dead three days after his death by crucifixion. The Bible says that Christ died on the cross on the day called Good Friday and came back to life the following Sunday.
The springtime celebration of Easter is a Christian tradition marking the day Jesus Christ is said to have come back to life. This day is a celebration of Christianity but is also a celebration of new beginnings and the changing seasons. As I share this about Easter, I fully realize how the enemy through pagan influences has sowed non-Christian elements into this blessed time. I have always believed it is the motive of the heart why you do what you do. Most Christian festivals such as Christmas and Easter are special moments or events in the life of Jesus. They help us remember the religious importance or significance of these events.
May we take time and deeply reflect on how Christ suffered for us on the cross to take away the sins of the world. The suffering He endured is unimaginable. So may we look at this Passover season with great appreciation. We are adopted sons and daughters of the most high God. The sting of death is no more, and we can look forward to eternity. If possible, as you gather with family this coming weekend make it known the importance of the season we are in.
“Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)
“The death he died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 6:8-11)

Jacob grew up in a God-fearing household, hearing the amazing stories of his grandfather Abraham and his father, Isaac. But the faith of his fathers didn’t take root in his own heart until adulthood, when Jacob had a series of personal, supernatural encounters with God. God appeared first to Jacob in a dream at Bethel (Genesis 28:10-22) and helped the conniving son of Isaac see that all those lavish promises first given to Abraham extended to him as well. In that encounter, Jacob saw that he couldn’t simply ride the coattails of his godly ancestors. Following God or not was his own decision to make. Years later, Jacob encountered God again while he was traveling back to Canaan with his growing family. This was the scene of Jacobs famous wrestling match with God, when he received a gimpy hip and the new name Israel (Genesis 32:24-32). Following a reunion with his twin brother, Esau, and upon his arrival in Shechem, he built an altar and called it El Elohe Yisrael – literally, El – or God – is the God of Israel.
This acknowledgment of God provided to reminders for Jacob and for Bible readers today. First, it distinguished Israel’s God from all other gods. Jacob was identifying himself with the one true God and separating himself from the other so-called gods of other nations. Second, this name identified God as a God of relationship. God is not just a creator of the universe or the God of humanity. He is deeply personal. He is the God of an individual named Israel who was previously known as Jacob. Thankfully the good news is this: The one true God can also be your God. When by faith in Christ you proclaim the God of the Bible as a God of your life, you enter into a relationship with Him. You acknowledge that He is the only real God, that He is superior to all the false gods of the world people often look to for security, significance, and identity. We wrap our lives around money, careers, popularity on social media, appearance, marriage, and friendships when we should be wrapping our minds and hearts around God. At the end of the day, we are left with one fact in one question: God is the God of Israel. Is He your God too?
