Tonight’s Call – COREY SHANKLETON – DISCIPLESHIP!
We cannot emphasize enough on our calls the importance of discipleship. It means putting God first. Jesus spoke and told the disciples they must deny themselves and follow him. Disciples are learners who follow a master teacher. It means more than a transfer of information…it refers to imitating the teacher’s life which of course is Jesus Christ. It inculcates His values and reproduces His teachings to those around us. It more than displays a relationship with the master teacher. Jesus and his teachings shape our worldview. In the heart of a true disciple there is a desire, and there is a decision or settled intent. It is a life of denying ourselves during temptation and challenging compromises the world presents. There is no middle ground as we are either hot or cold. To claim the salvation, He offered, each person is faced with the choice to exchange the god of his or her life with Jesus as the true God of life.
Unfortunately, in our day we wrongly separate the idea of discipleship from becoming a believer in Christ. The New Testament, in contrast to our current practice, equates being a Christian with being a disciple. When you study the Word the term disciple is used 269 times as opposed to the term Christian which is used only 3 times. Again, disciple is the primary term used in the Gospels to refer to Jesus’s followers and is referred for those known in the early church as believers, Christians, brothers, sisters, those of the Way or saints. In the time when Christianity became a force that turned the world upside down (Acts 17:6), the term disciple and Christian were used interchangeably.
If we do not have God’s larger redemptive story on which to live, we will tend to be deceived by a smaller, twisted version of the Story of Life. If we think that this world is our home and that this life is all there is, we often become demanding, desperate, and despairing when we do not get what we think belongs to us. True disciples see the bigger picture as we must pick up the cross and follow Him. Following Jesus as his disciple invites us to shed all regrets, shame, and guilt over wrongs done to us or by us which are heavy burdens to bear. Yes, it is a narrow road, but in the end, it leads to life. The church today needs leaders and shepherds who understand the true call of Christian discipleship and could teach and instruct God’s people. As disciples we must proclaim Jesus Christ first and foremost. We must teach and warn with wisdom. Presenting ourselves as mature in Christ is vitally important. Growing in maturity is critical. Disciples must realize there will be times of toil and struggle as well as fun and being rewarded. As we grow in discipleship God will provide us grace, energy, and power to overcome. Stay the course and hold the line!
“In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.” (Luke 14:33)
“Then Jesus came to them and said, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

1. Center for Internet Security – Albert System – have access to all internet systems in all 50 states. Tabulator results, they see it in the decrypted form. We are trusting all our
records to an organization that we know nothing about.
2. AP and Edison have access to all the election results!
3. E voting system vendors have access to election results – and in MI they have access into our voter rolls.

7. Rock the Vote – they have an application interface with the MI QVF!! They can manipulate records at will in real time!
POINT TO PONDER – DANGER AI: How much will Artificial Intelligence take over our elections combining all of these “bad guys” above.
NAMES OF GOD CHRISTOPHER HUDSON..EL YESHURUN – THE GOD OF JESHURUN!
If you have children, think of the endearing nicknames you’ve called them. Or think of the pet names your parents used to call you. Now consider the depth of the love behind them. We humans are not the only ones to use affectionate nicknames. God does it too. Here in Deuteronomy, He causes people Jeshuron, which means dear, upright people. Early Greek translators of the Old Testament translated Jeshuron to egapemenos, which means beloved.
Now read Deuteronomy 32:15-16: “jeshuron grew fat and kicked; filled with food, they became heavy and sleek. They abandon the God who made them. His own creatures, his covenant people and spiritual children, rejected him! God would not call His people Jeshuron unless He meant it. God really and truly loves Israel, the way a father loves his children. And God really and truly loves us. His heart breaks when we turn away from Him.
QUESTION: How does it make you feel to think that God has a loving pet name for you?
“There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you in on the clouds in His Majesty.” (Deuteronomy 33:26)
