Tonight’s Call – LIFE IN THE WOMB…MALTA PROJECT!
THE FIGHT FOR LIFE!!!
We will never forsake the honoring of life in the womb. Life is precious. Every human life. After all, a person is a person no matter how small. At 18 days, the baby’s heart begins to beat. At 21 days, it pumps his own blood with its own blood type to its own circulatory system. At 28 days, its eyes, ears, and respiratory system began to form. At 42 days, brain waves can be recorded, and reflexes are present. At seven weeks, you might see an image of your baby sucking his thumb. At eight weeks, all body systems are present. In nine weeks before most women show, or even know that they are pregnant, the baby can squint, swallow, move its tongue, and make a fist. At 11 weeks, the baby has fingernails and makes spontaneous breathing movements. At 15 weeks the baby has an adult tastebud. At 16 weeks, the genital organs are clearly differentiated, and the baby can grasp with his hands, swim, kick, turn, and do somersaults not even felt yet by the mother. As 17 weeks the baby can dream. At 18 weeks, the vocal cords were, and the baby can cry. At 20 weeks, the time of your ultrasound, the baby has hair on its head, weighs a pound, and is a foot long. The child can recognize his mother’s voice.
At 24 weeks, well more than half of all babies in this country survive premature birth, and the number goes up exponentially every week thereafter. In these children do not have a right to life? Are bigger people more deserving of protection than smaller people? Does your three-year-old have more rights than the three-month-old because she can talk? Does the teenager have more rights and a four-year-old because he can drive? Do your rights as a human person change when you’re in your car, in your home, in the suit, in your bathrobe, or underwater? Does your environment change what sort of rights you have as a person? Why should those inches down the birth canal change the rights of the child has as a human person? Well, the baby is completely dependent upon the mother. Does the person who relies on daily insulin injections to live have less of a right to do so? What about the person who has the right to go multiple times a week for dialysis, or they will die? Do they have less of a right to live? What if you have to take pills every morning to keep your cholesterol down so that you don’t die a premature death? Do you, because you are dependent upon those? Have less of a right to live?
Every human life is precious. Unborn life is precious. Children with special needs are precious. Aging parents are precious, even when they don’t remember because their suffering dementia, there still made in the image of God. Children are parents weren’t nonverbal, those in a wheelchair, and those were completely dependent upon you, or doctors are precious. All of life matters to God. If we have our eyes open, we can see this in even the most surprising places in the Bible,. You see it in the incarnation regard enter the world as a helpless baby. Defend, honor, and give thanks for life, yours, your children’s, and your parents. There we all pray, work, and later, no matter what political party we are a part of or who we voted for, so that every human life is protected prize, and considered precious.

Legend has it that King Arthur met with his Lords and knights at a roundtable so they would perceive one another as equals. This concept did not die with ancient times, today’s United Nations has rules in place, and even seating arrangements, to try to make people from all countries field equal. The smallest countries are encouraged to have a voice as big as the most powerful ones. At least in theory, no nation is favored over another. No nation is sovereign over another. No king rules over another. God is the great exception to this magnanimous plan. According to the Bible, He is the king of all kings. He is over all as a supreme leader. He has no equal. When it comes to governing the universe, there is no democratic vote. He doesn’t sit at a conference table next to us; He sits on a throne above us. His will is law all the time, because He has authority in every corner of the world.
That’s what the Bible declares; but if we are honest, it doesn’t always feel like that’s the case, does it? We look around and we see certain leaders doing whatever they want. They don’t seem subject to anyone. They make scary threats and empty promises. Meanwhile God seems silent, sometimes even passive. Why is this? It’s because God isn’t a dictator who micromanages His subjects. It’s also because, for now, God’s rule is largely spiritual, His kingdom invisible. For now, the King of Kings gives earthly leaders, nations, and individuals much freedom. But with that freedom, He also gives this promise: the day is coming when the heavens will open up and the Lord will descend to rule visibly, physically, and unmistakably upon the earth. On that day there will be no mistaking who is in charge or where the buck stops. All I will give an account to the King of Kings. Today while you watch the news or surf the Internet shaking your head at the chaos and unrest in the world, remind yourself that things are not what they seem. Our God is the King of Kings. He’s got the whole world, us included, in His good hands.
QUESTION/COMMENT: How could reminding yourself that God is the King of Kings change your perspective of current political events?
