Day 945 June 7 2023

Tonight’s Call – JUSTICE AND OCCUPATION!

Justice and occupation go hand in hand, especially today when we see the condition of our nation. The primary goal of justice is protecting innocent people and preventing or punishing crime. God is very concerned about this type of justice. If we can properly understand justice that helps us to understand God more clearly. God’s justice cannot be separated from what is known as His righteousness. His justice is never subjective and is always doing what is right. It is also the structure by which compassion, mercy, goodness, and other attributes flow and justice itself flows out of the structure of His love, mercy, and goodness. God’s justice is retributive because it is never prejudice, arbitrary, or impulsive, and is always morally attuned to human deeds. It focuses not on imposition of retribution on wrongdoers, but the restoration of right relationships. We should ask how do you see injustice from God?

It includes treating all people not only with fairness but also with protection and care. God calls all people to seek justice for those most valuable to suffering injustice. The Bible regularly appears justice with acting righteously and behaving with mercy, love, kindness, and compassion. There are different forms of justice in the Bible. One is personal justice, which is what we usually think of as personal righteousness. Another is commercial justice which deals with the marketplace. Then we have legal justice which seems to have been compromised in our nation. We have become very aware that there are two systems of legal justice in our nation. One is corrupt and one is righteous.

What did Jesus believe about justice? Jesus desires that all people will know him, and that all of his creation would serve, not oppress; share, rather than hoard; and empower, rather than the mean.

Jesus said, “And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you; he will see that they get justice, and quickly.” (Luke 18:7-8)

Justice is rendered when people receive their due, according to the law, be of God’s law or manslaughter. An act of justice is typically an act of the law and might be an act of vengeance and force. Mercy, on the other hand, means exercising forbearance. An act of mercy is an act of grace and compassion. Our walk in the Lord should always be marked by kindness, humility, and justice (Micah 6:8). The Bible is full of references regarding the term justice.

“For the Lord loves justice; He will not forsake his faithful ones.” (Psalm 37:28)

Does the word occupation work synonymously with justice? What is occupation Biblically? To occupy is to engage in Kingdom business until He returns. We are not to disengage in the escapism biding our time. Hold your ground, soldiers, lest it fall into enemy control. It is an act of taking possession and control. Jesus told this parable of Luke 19 because His disciples suppose it that His Kingdom would appear immediately.

“And He called his ten servants and delivered them 10 pounds and said unto them occupy until I come.” (Luke 19:13)

As we occupy the land that we live in which includes our sphere of influence our job is to glorify God. This must be our purpose in life, whatever we do, do all to the glory of God. How are we to accomplish this? By placing the benefit of others ahead of ourselves, by forgoing our liberties so that the loss might be saved, and by pursuing the likeness of Christ. We must continue to impact our culture with the gospel and a Biblical Worldview. This must be our labor and service as works must follow our faith. We must concern ourselves with what is taking place in the cultural gateways of society and occupy those areas through prayer and action. What is needed today are Christian patriots who will stand for the Lord in the most difficult of times even if there’s persecution. Of course, faith and understanding the authority we carry in Christ Jesus is critical for us to make an impact. So the challenge is what can I do?

GRANDFATHER’S YOU HAVE BEEN PROMOTED! (Pastor Steve Stroupe)

Grandfathers hold a unique and exalted position when it comes to the process of spiritual formation in the next generation. Other than mom and dad no one else carries the stature or inherent authority in the lives of children. In fact, not even mom or dad can fill the role we fill. That’s why I find it troubling that so many modern grandfathers squander their opportunity thinking “I’ve finished the parenting task”. We are not called the grandparents because we’ve been retired from the parenting process.

We are called grand because we’ve been promoted! That means your task is to do everything possible to help your family achieve success in their most important assignment. Regardless of what business you may be in, your family business includes a clear purpose. Specifically, those blessed with the gift of grandchildren are called to inspire and nurture the faith of the next generation as life’s greatest privilege and priority.

The Scriptures command moms, dads, and grandparents to give the next generation a framework for living rooted in the knowledge of and relationship with God. In is our job to support and reinforce the role of parents as they fulfill the command of Deuteronomy 6.

“These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home, and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-8 )

This generation of grandfathers mentally check out or skim past this vital passage of Scripture because they assume it only applies to mom and dad. When did that change? Prior generations of grandparents understood this mandate to target them as the patriarchs of faith in their extended families. We knew to recapture that understanding today and we’re going to fulfill our God ordained role in the faith formation process. How do you start? Put in place regular scheduled times when you get to invest in your grandchildren. Here are some suggestions.

1. Put a weekly touching base call or text message reminder on your planner to prompt spontaneous encouragement or conversation.

2. Plan some sleepovers with your grandchildren when they are of age.

3. Create Grandfather/Grandson, Grandmother/Granddaughter events or dates.

4. Help grandchildren pick out and purchase Christmas gifts for their parents.

5. Observe annual celebrations of their salvation.

6. Establish Christmas and Resurrection Day traditions.

The key is creating recurring meaningful experiences that, once they have been instituted, take place automatically. Leverage the tools and resources we suggested to make influencing the faith of the next generation easy.
