Day 993 July 25 2023

Tonight’s Call –  SETTLING THE VOICES OF CONFUSION…THE PRAYER CLOSET!

We are filled with the world of sound, distractions, conflicting voices, good and bad vibrations. There are revolving thoughts in our mind daily, fake and true news in the air waves,.varying opinions, and prophetic voices that are speaking today.  How do these affect us spiritually?  We are constantly bombarded with outside stimuli. How do we make sure what we are being impacted by from the moment we wake up is keeping us on the narrow and true way?  What is the answer that will bring us into a place of spiritual sanity? We must always go back to the basics to navigate the times we are in.

 The Prayer Closet!

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (Matthew 6:6).

It is a place where we can go and be alone with God.  It may be a designated room, a place where you walk in the woods or along the lakeshore, your car, even the rooftop, or any place where you can seclude yourself away from the busyness of the day.  Isolation from distractions is a key element in finding your special place.  You may have one particular place or a number of them.  Just find a place to be alone with God.  God is always ready to meet you.  It is a secret place where you can talk to God out loud or communicate with Him in your thoughts.  It is a place of self-denial where we sacrifice our time; it is also a test of sincerity and our devotion to God.  You will be fed the bread of life in this place as you study the word of God (Luke 4:4).

The manna (bread of life) in the wilderness was only good for one day.  The Israelites were told to gather fresh manna every morning (Exodus 16:12-31).  Attempt to eat one meal a week and observe the physical toll on the human body.  Give us this day our daily bread is an appeal within the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6: 11).  One of the primary purposes of the prayer closet is to be fed fresh manna daily to sustain our spiritual man.  When one is sick, loss of hunger is a symptom.  Is it possible that not seeking the Lord on a daily basis is a sign of spiritual sickness?  Is the symptom the loss of spiritual hunger?  Feeding solely on a Sunday morning sermon will leave us as spiritual skeletons.

Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!  (Psalm 27:14)

The prayer closet is the place where you are spiritually nourished.  It is a place where you privately communicate your innermost feelings, whether good or bad.  You can be still and be silent and say nothing.  It is a place where you wait to hear God’s voice.  It takes patience and faith to hear that small still inner voice speaking to you.  It can be the place for you to cry out, declare, proclaim, make petitions, sing, praise Him and give thanks.  Any of these actions are not uncommon in the closet of prayer – that private and secret place.  The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6: 9-13) may come into your mind, as it so beautifully breaks down the essential elements of a complete prayer.  This secret chamber is literally the preserver of our relationship with God!  It wonderfully clears the vision; steadies the nerves; defines duty; stiffens the purpose; sweetens and strengthens the spirit. It is the place where we regain our spiritual sanity.  It is the place where all the voices of confusion are sorted out.

It is the place where Jesus the great physician can surgically remove (spiritually) the hindrances, setbacks, wounds, and issues of the heart.  It is a place to examine your personal motives and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12) to determine why you do what you do.  A spiritual inventory can be made where subtle areas of sin are exposed. This will create an environment of repentance that can be established daily.  Let the Holy Spirit have its way!

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.” Surely, He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday” (Psalm 91:1-6).

“Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8: 26-27).

Jesus Christ is the word and truth (John 1:14, 14:6).  In John 17 (the night before He died) Jesus was in a state of desperate prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.  The word Gethsemane means olive press.  Jesus was squeezed in this place where the oil of the Holy Spirit was made available to us.  He set Himself apart to be alone with God the Father.  This time alone strengthened Him for what He was to endure on the cross.  How much more do we need strengthening in these last days?  We all have been called and given an assignment to fulfill a destiny here on earth. The prayer closet is the place where you will receive the blueprint and instructions to build and finish the task at hand. The prayer closet is the place where the Holy Spirit is allowed to touch the human spirit.  The natural man cannot comprehend the things of God.  We must allow the Holy Spirit to do its work in us and this takes place during times of intimate fellowship and communion with God.  It is here where we have the mind of Christ!  It is here where the radical remnant receives life.

“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2: 11-16).
