Tonight’s Call – CONTEND FOR THE FAITH!
We are in a time where contending for the faith will produce great fruit. Souls will be coming into the Kingdom in unprecedented numbers. How can we become part of this “Great Awakening”? It is through “prayer and contending for the faith”.
CONTEND: State or argue for what is true; defend and proclaim the truth.
In Jude 3 we are admonished to “contend earnestly for the faith,” meaning to come to its defense and to proclaim it freely and openly. In short, it implies the use of polemics and apologetics to defend sound doctrine and even the defense of faith itself to the skeptic.
“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” (Jude 3)
Rather than focus on the commonality of their salvation, Jude instead urges the church to have ownership of their faith by fighting for it. Jude’s concern is that the Christian message of the gospel—”the faith”—is under attack from false teachers and their heresies. Jude exhorts his readers to contend for the message of the gospel against those who are seeking to erode it. The ancient Greek word translated ‘contend’ comes from the athletic world—from the wrestling mat. Are we not in a wrestling match today as we labor for souls? The word contend is a strengthened form of the word meaning ‘to agonize.’ Therefore ‘contend’ speaks of hard and diligent work.
There is also a sense of danger in the word contend, as though there is something that we are at a great risk of losing if we do not contend for the faith. We must contend for the Bible as being true. It is a love letter from God to mankind. How many in our sphere of influence are wavering in their faith. The Holy Spirit led Jude to remind believers that they had to fight against false teaching. It is necessary for us to continue fighting for the truth of the gospel continually in our churches and with our friends and family. Jude was prompted to write this because “certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:4).
Marxism has impregnated our culture which expounds an atheistic worldview. False teachers had infiltrated the educational system, church, and all the cultural gateways of our nation with this ideology. The New Testament is filled with warnings to the church about false teachers. False prophets are dangerous because they are convincing, so Jude instructs the church on how to respond when there are false teachers in a congregation—by holding fast to the truth of the gospel.
This urge to fight for the gospel, or to contend for the faith, is found elsewhere in the epistles (1 Corinthians 9:24-27, 1 Timothy 6: 12-14, Philippians 1:27) all use the language of competition and victory. What about Epheians 6:12 which urges the believer to be strong in the Lord because we have a real enemy that we are wrestling against. If we are lazy and hold the gospel loosely, letting man’s doctrines, traditions, legalism or liberality outweigh Scripture, then we have lost the battle. We are not only fighting the battle for the truth for ourselves, but for those around us, the weaker or those who are easily deceived, those younger or more impressionable.
PRACTICAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Build yourselves up in the faith!
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh” (Jude 1: 20-23)
2. Pray in the Holy Spirit for those in your sphere of influence.
We are to contend for the faith by building ourselves up in the faith, praying in the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 6:18).
3. Be sensitive to those around you.
We need to be sensitive to the needs of people you know as many might be struggling in their faith because of the false teacher’s doctrines. We are to hate the presence of sin, calling our brothers and sisters in Christ out of it, and at the same time show mercy to those who are doubting.
4. Breastplate Prayer.
The Old Testament priest wore a breastplate with 12 precious stones representing the 12 tribes (Exodus 28:21, 29, 39:14). There were four rows of three stones and the priests would stand in the gap for the nation of Israel before God. Initially, God desired the whole nation to be a kingdom of priests. Each stone represented a tribe in Israel. Why not place 12 people on your spiritual breastplate and pray for these 12 individuals daily. The top row would be for unsaved family members, the second row of three would be for friends and acquaintances, the third row for those in the workplace or neighborhood where you live and the fourth row for people you would never meet or encounter. This could revolutionize a church if all attending would take up this practice. This initiative would transform a city, county or a state if numerous churches participated across any region. What if every church took this prayer strategy to heart? Every person in the nation would be covered in prayer.
5. Use Bible Proofs that may provide evidence…”The Bible is True”.
Send one to your family, friends, and sphere of influence with your written testimony at Christmas time.

I declare the next Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, will be a reformer. He will have an unwavering allegiance to the Son of God and the Kingdom of God. I declare they will be willing, able and passionate to take on the challenge of paying price and the cost of protecting the biblical principles America was founded on. I declare with his heart of purity and a life led by holy fear for our Creator he will live the life of a reformer. I declare Mike Johnson will live under the flag of the red, white, and blue, but be guided by the banner of the blood of Jesus and the word of the Living God. I declare with his heart of surrender they will not allow the darkness to steal the life of the unborn. I declare with his heart of surrender they will not allow the evil seed of Islamic influence to rule in the United States of America.
I declare with his heart of surrender he will not allow the sacred covenant of marriage between one man and one woman to continue to be trodden under foot. With a heart of reformation he will choose to operate with a heart of violent worship – unselfishly devoted to ushering in the glory of God that crushes the enemy’s camp. I declare with his heart of surrender he will not live within the four walls that have come to be called the church and will not be ruled by fear and intimidation of man, nor the democratic party, nor the rinos. I declare with a heart of surrender he will challenge the culture and effectively aid in the transformation of the culture and the resetting of this nation. I declare with a heart of surrender he will overturn ungodly principles and decrees declared from the mouths of evil representatives who have staked their unrighteous place in the political arena.
I declare his ears will always be inclined to the voice of the Captain of the Hosts. I declare he will make a solemn vow to live the life of a reformer. I declare Mike Johnson’s “yes” will be “yes”, and his “no” will be “no”. I declare that as he seeks first the Kingdom of God, he will walk in authority to execute righteous judgments in this land. I declare that his footsteps of obedience will be burned into the ground, and it will cause a holy consumption of all unrighteousness. I declare his war cry of reformation always be centered, rooted, and grounded by the Kingdom of God.
I declare these things over the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson and I declare, Let these become the boundaries for his stand of responsibility in that place. I declare that he will be a catalyst to turn hearts. I declare the anointing that he will bring as the Speaker of the House is going to cause some of those that are on both sides, that are fearful of things being done to them, and threats that will be made to them, they are going to step up, man up.
They are not going to fear what can be done. And they are going to let the conviction of God rule their hearts again. I declare that Mike Johnson can and will bring awakening, reformation, and transformation to the House of Representatives as Speaker of the House. I declare these things in faith tonight. We battle from your promises, Lord. You said you desire to put him in the middle so that he could be there and bring about a reset in the House. So Father, we thank you. Your words are settled in heaven and your words are sure and we stand with this tonight.
