Tonight’s Call – DISTINGUISHING HOLY FROM PROFANE PT 2!
THOUGHTS ON COMMUNION – JOHN MARK VIKOTS
NOTE: Many times, I receive articles from those on our call. I could not resist this one. Why are we taking communion every night? Read this with an open heart.
Most of us are aware that many call communion the meal that heals. With that in mind I want to share a revelation moment about healing and a life of health that comes in receiving communion. I have included some verses that will help bring clarity and better understanding to what the Lord revealed to me during a recent time of intimacy with Him. There are many verses that could be cited; however the ones listed are sufficient and basic to understand what I would like to share.
*1 Corinthians 6:17 The person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. NLT
*John 17:20 – 21 I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us. NKJV
*2 Corinthians 5:17 If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. NKJV
*1 Corinthians 6:17, When I was born again my spirit became one Spirit with His Spirit, my Spirit is now as perfect as His Spirit, which is the reason we can claim we are the righteousness of Jesus
*1 Corinthians 11:29-30 For if you do not recognize the meaning of the Lord’s body when you eat the bread and drink from the cup, you bring judgment on yourself as you eat and drink. That is why many of you are sick and weak, and several have died. GNB
In the same way, when I take communion in faith believing I am receiving the body of Jesus, my body becomes one body with His body which is the perfection of health. That means in communion, I receive His body in faith and have become His perfect health in the same way that I became one Spirit with Him at the time of salvation. Also, in faith as I receive His blood, His blood becomes one with my blood, which means my blood takes on the purity of His blood. This means no cancer, infection, parasite or sickness can live in my blood which is united with His perfect and pure blood.
If we take communion without understanding what Jesus did for us on the cross, we miss out on the healing He accomplished for us on the cross, causing many to be sick, weak and die before their time. Without a full understanding of what Jesus accomplished for us, taking communion becomes a mere ritual with no results, meaning we are not being able to receive the healing and a life of health that Jesus paid for. Since 1 Corinthians 11:29-30 points out the reason for their sickness and early death, we must conclude that if we do partake of communion with a full understanding of the work of Jesus, we will receive all the benefits He accomplished for us. 1 Peter 2:24 says that Jesus Himself took our sins in His body on the cross that we might die to sin and live unto righteousness, and by His wounds or stripes we were healed. From God’s perspective, healing, like salvation, has already been accomplished by Jesus. All that remains is for us to receive what He did by faith and belief that what He says in His word is true for us personally. This does not mean that communion is a magic formula or to use it like a gumball machine to get God to give us what we want or need. Communion is a step of faith in receiving what the Lord has already provided for in His atoning work on the cross.
I firmly believe everything that was just stated to be absolutely true. However, healing, no matter how desperate our need, should never be our motivation in receiving communion or to receive anything else that we need. Our main goal and motivation in life should first and foremost be to live a life of intimacy with our Lord Jesus Christ. Although communion can bring the healing you may desperately need and desire, the goal in receiving communion should be viewed as an opportunity to have a time of deep intimacy with Jesus, your husband, and the lover of your soul. Too often communion is a rushed time and ritual that totally defeats what the Lord desires to do for us and in us. The very word communion means to commune and communicate in an intimate and close relationship.
One of my daughter’s attitudes towards me was give me, give me, give me. The other daughter never asked for anything. Her only goal was to be with her daddy. Guess which one I lavishly showered with gifts? When receiving communion, our only goal should be to love on Jesus, and it is guaranteed He will shower you with healing. Healing may not come immediately, but it will come! Don’t be a give me Christian! Be a lover of Jesus, every day and especially when receiving communion as we remember how much He suffered for our benefit!
