Tonight’s Call COREY SHANKLETON…OUR COMMISSION IN CHRIST!

We must keep in perspective what eternity really means, which is time without end or infinity. Our time on earth is very short so we must challenge ourselves what is our purpose in life and what are we truly living for. As we grasp the concept of eternity and compare it to the short time, we have here on earth it should jolt us into realizing how important it is not to waste our time. We have been called and commissioned as born-again Christians. What is commissioning?

COMMISSIONING: The condition of being placed under special authoritative responsibility or charge. a task or matter committed to one’s charge, an official assignment.

Our commission from Jesus as Christians is interpreted as meaning that his followers have the duty to go, share the Gospel, make disciples, teach, and baptize. This season of time we are in has provided an opportunity to share the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ as never before. The Lord has opened the hearts of many people. Identify your sphere of influence that you have been given and understand the role of commissioning given to you by the Lord.

One atheist speaking to another Christian had given a reason why he had not become one. He said if there was HELL as the Bible explains you should be screaming it from the housetops. Think about that reasoning. Barna research did a study and found that many professing Christians believed there was no HELL. Of course, they believed there was a heaven. The Scriptures clearly speak of the goodness and severity of God; mercy and justice; love vs hatred of evil; and Grace vs judgment.

We must consider the calling and commissioning given to us as an honor. The “Great Awakening” is on our doorstep. The Scriptures are very clear the gate to life is narrow and few find it…. broad is the path of destruction (Matthew 7:13-14). We are bearers of life so carry the torch in your commissioning as he who wins souls is wise (Proverbs 11:30).

“Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Matthew 28: 16-20)

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7: 13-14)
