TONIGHT’S CALL- MARK GURLEY…INSIGHTS ON THE PROPHETIC!

Have you ever seen a movie where a ship was in the middle of the storm and all the sailors were running around frantically to do what is needed to save the ship? It doesn’t seem possible that everybody could drop what they were doing and just rest in the middle of the storm. We are in that situation currently in America. We must follow God’s directive and labor to enter that rest. We must bring into captivity any negative thoughts and look into the future and see the victory that we have been praying for. It is within our grasp! Instead of running around like sailors on that ship in a storm we must take time now to rest and have faith the Lord is working on our behalf. Do not let all the negative news take you down a rabbit hole of unbelief, fear, anxiety, and negativity. The word rest means reposing down, abode, settle down desist or cease. It is also said that we must work not to come short of it.

“Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” (Hebrews 4:11)

We learn that God’s rest comes in two parts. First, we enter God’s rest when we believe in Christ’s finished work on the cross. “For we who have believed enter that rest …” We enter God’s rest when we believe and are saved, but the final consummation of God’s rest comes with Christ’s return.

Learning to rest in God is a process that takes time. It’s like peeling an onion. You remove a layer and think you have reached the best part, only to discover there is another layer for you to uncover, master, and enjoy. Often in my past, I had not appreciated the value of rest. But now, I understand it is a course of necessary discovery.

Jesus spoke tenderly on this subject of rest when he said, “Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis” -Matt 11:28.

I surrender my burdens to You, Jesus. My concerns for the world have been almost overwhelming at times. My heart aches for children of war, for the elderly, the wounded, the sick, and the poor. Rabbi Jesus, I am sad and anxious at times, due to inflation, the supply chain issues, and the constant bad news of the last few years. This can overwhelm me at times which brings about the feeling of hopelessness.

So, teach me, Jesus, to learn how to rest in Your grace and trust You more, and worry less. Heavenly Father, I trust You to guide me through these days. I ask You, Holy Spirit, to refresh my weary soul. Lord, please help me to release the burdens that are upon my shoulders to You. Comfort me and give peace to my soul and spirit. Amen. May my God, who is an endless source of revelation and strength, be evident in me. Amen.
