Tonight’s Call – RICK WARZYWAK WITH PATRICK COLBECK!
Transformation Michigan and the Michigan Capitol House of Prayer wishes all of you a very Merry Christmas! A storm is underway in our state and nation. Yes, my family has altered its Christmas Eve and Christmas Day plans. I have fired up my snowblower and have my generator ready. May we hunker down and have a perfect peace as Jesus Christ came, died, and rose again to take away the sins of the world. He has provided numerous promises for each and every one of us. Even as we wait out this physical storm may we reflect on the ONE Jesus Christ this season commemorates.
Christmas is about the birth of God’s son – Jesus. It is about how He came to give us love, hope, and joy. That message doesn’t change from year to year. When there is so much bad news and devastation in the world, this is good news worth celebrating! Traditionally for many of us, Christmas is a celebration, a time for giving and not simply a day we exchange gifts. The true spirit of Christmas is in the togetherness, it’s in the thought to which you put into thinking about others, it’s a selfless time, where we forgive, take stock of what’s important and become better versions of ourselves. Christmas is also a great time to teach kids to be thankful for the bigger things in life. It is a great opportunity to give to those less fortunate and talk to your children about all the things they have that they are grateful for.
I am not here to debate the real date of the birth of Christ. How we celebrate is in our hearts. It is about motive and intent and why we do what we do. So, focus on the real reason of what Christ represents to mankind and in each of us personally. Yes, my lights may go out because of the storm but our hearts should shine bright and as you may be lighting some candles think about the wise virgins of Matthew 25. May we take some time to ask for some oil for personal lamps. We were called to be a light to the world. Jesus was squeezed in the garden of Gethsemane. Gethsemane means olive press. What Christ endured must be remembered no matter the circumstances we are experiencing. The birth of Jesus Christ has brought the true gift which Is Salvation to the World.
So may we be thankful today as we are a blessed people! Merry Christmas to every one of you!
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with a child from the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 1:18)

NAMES OF GOD SERIES – CHRISTOPHER HUDSON – IMMANUEL…GOD WITH US!
It’s a favorite verse at Christmas time, but the promise of Isaiah 7:14 can empower our lives all year long. Immanuel, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23)– what a startling, staggering thought! The ancient Hebrews envisioned God as high and lifted up on His heavenly throne, or perhaps sequestered in the most holy place at the Temple in Jerusalem. Either way, God was thought to be more “aloof from” then “with” His people. Sadly, a lot of people still feel this way about God. How tragic that we forget about God walking and talking with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:8-9). And even after the fall, He continued to graciously come near to Old Testament believers. He was very much “with” Abraham, Moses, Elijah, and others. Despite His holiness, God drew close to sinful creatures and made Himself accessible to His people.
The prophecy of “God with us” was fulfilled at the coming of Christ. Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, making Him fully God and fully man. The apostle John described the momentous event of the incarnation this way: “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us” (John 1:14). The eternal Son of God “pitched His tent “among humankind. Because He lived among us, Jesus is a high priest who knows what it is like to be human (Hebrews 4:15). Through His work on the cross, He opened the way of unfettered access to God– available anytime and anywhere. And one day we will see God’s face as we walk with Him again (Revelation 22:4).
For you today, Immanuel is more than a Christmas saying. It means God came close in Christ and did all that is necessary to bring us back to Himself. In Christ, God came near us to be with us, to die for us, so that He might, by His Spirit, live in us. Wonder at the promise of Immanuel today: He promises to live in us (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), Ephesians 3:17); He promises to never walk away from us. (Hebrews 13:5). God came near to us when we could not come near to Him.
QUESTION: God wants to be with you, close to you. How can embracing God’s presence make a difference in your life today?
“Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)
