Tonight’s Call –  COREY SHANKLETON…STANDING IN THE COMING DAY!

The Lord is at His best when facing times of adversity. He teaches us to stand against anything we may face. Adversity reminds us of our weaknesses. It comes in many forms, and it comes for all of us. But realize, sometimes trouble in life is of our own making. Adversity is God’s way of getting our attention. It includes trouble, opposition, pressure, chastening, illness, anguish, testing or tribulation. It is greater than our ability to resolve. It sometimes comes in multiple, several trials at once. When this happens, it can be overwhelming. Adversity refers to a situation where you have continuous bad luck or in a difficult or unpleasant situation with many obstacles or problems. To be in the face of adversity is to be in a situation where we are forced to confront setbacks or challenges. Are we not all facing that in this current season of time?

We must learn how to overcome adversity. Attempt to be prepared, try to look ahead, and see when trouble is on the horizon. Being positive no matter, the circumstances is also another way to overcome it. Staying focused and being disciplined with the solutions God provides is key. The Bible is clear about the importance of surrounding ourselves with people who we can trust. There is safety in the multitude of counselors. We can learn from others who have experienced the same situations we are facing. To overcome any crisis, we need to fully commit to finding a way forward. You must approach the problem determined and motivated. This will create a mindset where you look at adversity as something to be overcome and solve, not passively accepted. Adversity forces us to reach out for help, and to realize we cannot and should not overcome our struggles on our own.

The Lord is our answer as He says to cast all of her burdens upon Him. Adversity provides opportunities not only to live the gospel but to share it as well. We must cast all of our anxieties upon the Lord because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). The Lord is the master planner in both explicit and subtle ways. Even in the face of adversity, when things don’t make sense or when life is uncertain, we are to look to the Lord through eyes of faith, not our senses, but trust Him. Never forget God is truly trustworthy. Trust his plan as He lays it out in the times as you seek him. Listen to that small still voice and He will provide any answer that is needed. Each of us have been given gifts of the Holy Spirit and during times of adversity God will activate them to press through. Remember, people are watching and how you handle these challenges will be a witness to those in your sphere of influence. Stay the course and hold the line!

“He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45)

“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)

“And He said unto me, my grace is sufficient for you; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

NAMES OF GOD SERIES – CHRISTOPHER HUDSON…JEHOVAH-SABAOTH…THE LORD OF HOSTS!

Nowadays, many parents give their child a certain name simply because it sounds unique or as popular– not because it has deep meaning. The Bible names are different. Naming in Scripture is a way of saying something about it individual’s character. So, when God called Himself the Lord Almighty or the Lord of Hosts, as it appears in Bible translations, He revealed a great truth about His nature: He’s over everything, He commands all the cosmic powers of the universe, all angelic, heavenly armies. With such a name, the God of Israel distinguished Himself from, and set Himself above, all other so-called gods.

Ra was the God of Egypt. Bail was the God of Phoenicia. To worship Marduk was to worship the God of the Babylonian regions. Each of these deities was thought to have power over a certain area. Jehovah Sabaoth, however, is not limited by boundaries or cultures. He is the Lord of everything: the Lord over heaven, the Lord over angels, the Lord over people, the Lord over earth and every other planet. The God who rules over the heavens and the earth and everything in them, controls all things at once. He has no limits. This power is universal, infinite– or Almighty. In modern day terms, Yahweh is God Almighty over careers, wealth, sex, and family– all the good things that we try to turn into ultimate things. God is not a local, tribal deity. He is universal and all-powerful. He is the Almighty One, the Lord of hosts.

QUESTION: What area of your life are you holding back from the ruler of everything?

“Therefore, the Lord, the Lord Almighty, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: “Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes and avenge myself on my enemies.'” (Isaiah 1:24)
