Tonight’s Call – WHEN ONE SUFFERS WE ALL SUFFER!
Recently, I was walking out of a store, and I saw an elderly lady lose her balance on the wet pavement and her whole shopping cart flipped over onto the ground spilling all the groceries. She also fell and was very embarrassed. A number of people as well as myself rushed to help her out. The response was immediate as they responded to her burden or mishap. We can also illustrate the idea of bearing one another’s burdens with the picture of a man staggering beneath a heavy load of grain. He must somehow get this grain home to his family, but he is about to crumble beneath its weight. A brother sees his distress and rushes to his aid, lifting a part of the burden and thereby easing the weight of it. Although the supportive one does not assume the whole load, his help allows the struggling one to carry on to his destination. As we see many storms of all types hitting our nation there are many people in need. It is the duty of Christians to look at other people’s interests other than their own (Philippians 2:8). When we go through personal challenges isn’t that a good feeling when people offer assistance? .
Jesus says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2). We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves. This is the law that Jesus gave us as He walked this earth. We must serve others and in doing so we can help carry their burdens. The word to bear in the Greek can mean to take up or to carry away. The word burden can also mean weight. When you consider this verse in context, it means we should be taking up or carrying away the weights that others are carrying. In other words, no one should ever go through situations alone. This is one of the responsibilities of the body of Christ. For example, God has given each of us responsibilities for our families (1 Timothy 5:8), our churches (1 Corinthians 12:18), and our personal holiness (1 Peter 1:15-16). We cannot assume responsibility for someone else’s behavior. We can, however, bear another individual’s burdens; we can come alongside a struggling brother or sister and help shoulder the weight of a trial or temptation that threatens to pull him/her under.
We are each responsible before God for the gifts and resources He has entrusted to us (Romans 14:12, 2 Corinthians 5:10). We cannot blame others, shift responsibility, or make excuses about why we were unfaithful with the assignments we’ve been given—we must bear our own loads. But there are also times when life threatens to overwhelm. A spouse dies. A child is injured. A job folds or a house burns down. As part of the family of God, we are to come to the aid of our brothers and sisters in need (Philippians 2:3-4). When a load suddenly becomes too heavy for one person, we are to bear one another’s burdens. The added strength and encouragement of others is often the difference between pressing on and giving up.
As we move into a season of challenges there will be many who will go into trials of suffering and experiencing physical and spiritual burdens. Are we not moved when we see members of our family going through difficult situations? A parent for example is moved when their children may be going through struggles. In this season of time we will be surrounded by many who will be suffering. May all of us be aware and pray for grace to be a help to those who are in need. It is a time of sacrifice. Jesus said to pick up the cross, deny ourselves, and follow Him. Jesus Christ is our ultimate burden bearer so may we cast our cares upon Him as we go through various sufferings and burdens.t
“And whenever one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or when one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.” (1 Corinthians 12:26)
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. (1 Peter 5: 6-11)

“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.” (Psalm 37:7)
Remember the Jabez prayer of 1 Chronicles 4:10 – “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.”
POINT TO PONDER FOR PARENTS – Be Still And Know That I Am God· – “There comes a time – many times, actually – in the lives of our children where we have to put the basket in the water. We have to let go and trust the plan of the Father. The world is a scary place – a place where we fear our children could drown. But we must remember that we have to let go so that God can draw them from the waters for His great purpose. He has called us to be their parents, but they were His first. My friend, whatever water you may be getting ready to put your basket into – remember that you have to put them in the water for God to draw them out and place them into His perfect plan. Though you might not be physically present with your child as much during the next phase of life, you can always petition the heart of the Father on their behalf.” – Ashlei Woods
