Who am I? What am I? How do people see us as individuals? How do we discover who we are? We must begin by humbling ourselves under God’s mighty hand and knowing that He cares and loves you! Knowing who you are, His, can take a huge weight from your mind and ease many anxieties in discovering our identity.
Christians are under a microscope today and we are called to be examples in Christ. Leadership is needed in these challenging times. It is our time to shine and be the optimist the world needs. All who are in Christ have been given a sphere of influence to lead that sphere out of darkness and give them hope through encouragement we can convey. Maintaining self-identity is important because it strengthens our character. That is, when we know who we are, have confidence in ourselves and can identify our strengths, we emerge as stronger individuals. Secondly, it keeps us unique and distinguishes us from everyone else.
IDENTITY: The set of qualities and beliefs that make one person or group different from others; the distinguishing character or personality of an individual.
A spiritual identity allows a person to create a framework for their life that’s individual to them. Christians will often talk of having a “personal relationship with god” through Jesus. They aren’t just the name Christian — spiritual Christians actively pray, think, and live according to their beliefs. This process involves being careful who we spend most of our time with as it will impact our spiritual identity. Our Identity in Christ develops when we are surrounded by a community of believers who provide love and support and help us grow. A believer’s identity in Christ speaks of them being a new creation. The old self that lived apart from Christ is dead (crucified with Christ), and the new self emerges living in the power of God from Christ likeness to greater Christ likeness. The world needs examples and we are being called to be that light that shines to cast out the darkness in people’s lives. Never underestimate your identity in Christ as you are the conveyor of hope! May we realize the victory before us in the identity we have in Christ!
