    Two Dedications
    At the beginning of our new nation, President George Washington dedicated this new nation as part of his First Inaugural Address on April 30, 1789, with these words:
    Since we ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of Heaven, can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained: And since the preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the Republican model of Government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally staked, on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.
    In short, our first President said, that the God of Heaven smiles IF we as a nation follow “the eternal rules of order and right” put in place by Him. President Washington went on to declare that the preservation of “the sacred fire of liberty” in our American government is “entrusted to the hands of the American people.”
    It was after Solomon dedicated the Lord’s temple in 2 Chronicles 7 that the Lord Himself spoke to Solomon and said,

    14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

    Notice the IF in both of these quotations (Washington’s and 2 Chronicles)

    We, the American people, who have been entrusted to preserve “the sacred fire of liberty” are called upon to humble ourselves, to pray, and to turn from our wicked ways. As we pray, we represent the people of America and the people of God. IF, note the IF once again, we the people of America will pray and repent of the sins of our land, the Lord will hear our prayers, forgive our sins, and heal our land. IF, we strive for what is Right and True, the Lord will smile upon us. He will hear and answer our prayers.

    Let us pray as American people who hold the fire of liberty in our hands. Let us repent as American people for our sins and for the sins of our fellow Americans. Let us pray for God’s direction and will in turning from our wicked ways as American people. Let us trust that the Lord of the universe will smile from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land.
