What is a Gateway?
A gateway is an opening that can be closed by a gate.
“we turned into a gateway leading to a small cottage”
a frame or arch built around or over a gate.
“a big house with a wrought-iron gateway”
a means of access or entry to a place.
“Mombasa, the gateway to East Africa”
Our bodies have 5 gateways, our soul has 7 gateways and our spirit has 8 gateways;. Our goal should be for:
♦ Our body to be the slave and servant of the soul;
♦ Our soul to be the slave and servant of our spirit and
♦ Our spirit to be the slave and servant of Jesus Christ.
We may have inadvertently given demonic forces legal access and legal rights to sit in the gateways that we have in our control. Or our ancestors may have given legal right to the same and that legal right may still be there.
That is what happens when you take 1 Thessalonians 5:23 seriously: May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
A Gateway is a place of authority where dominion is exercised. Whoever controls your life’s different gateways exercises authority, dominion & control over you.
We may have inadvertently given demonic forces legal access and legal rights to sit in those gateways to dominate. Our ancestors may have given legal right to a demon. That legal right may still be there.
The kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force. Matthew 11:12. To be violent is to take the Word of God and use it to dispossess what has control of the gateways in our lives.
Look at Rev. 3:20 (Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me).
Jesus, the creator of the universe, wants to sup with you. He wants to have an intimate relationship with you. He is knocking and the handle is on your side. You must take the first step.
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17 Take the first step, imagine yourself opening a door and letting Jesus in. Then, experience the freedom.
Body Gateways
The main gateways are:
- Touch, Taste, Smell, Sight, Hearing
Touch
If a person has been sexually molested or physically abused, this gateway has likely been defiled. How a person reacts when hugged often will give you a clue if a demon is sitting at this gateway. They could have a spirit of anger sitting at this gateway. That spirit can control the entry of love. In such a situation, a prayer can go something like this: Today in the name of Jesus I reject the lies in this gateway. I reject the power and control over the gate of touch. I take authority in this gateway and release the fire of God to come and fill this gateway, When the touch gateway is clean, people can feel love flowing in.
TASTE
People with addictions must often cleanse this area.
SMELL
Smells can release all sorts of memories.
One of the best ways to dispel a demon at the smell gateway is fasting.
SIGHT
Once this gateway has been defiled, a strong spirit of lust, pornography, etc. can sit over it. We have to place a strong resistance over that spirit. A person with a spirit of pornography at the sight gate will be continually be pulled back because the demon wants to see more. This gateway controls the mind gateway.
When people see things that are not there, it is because a demon has such strong control over the sight gateway that the image is portrayed into their imagination.
Sample prayer: Father I release the flow of the glory of God through the gateways of revelation, imagination and physical sight. May my eyes become repulsive to the demonic world as I reflect the glory of God within me. Growing up we are trained to see from the outside in. God wants us to see from the inside out.
HEARING
Verbal abuse of any kind affects the hearing gateway. This can cause spirits such as spirits of rejection and death to enter. The hearing gateway controls what the mind thinks. Negative hearing can resist hope flowing from the Holy Spirit.
Summary:
Couple prayer and fasting with pulling down the strongholds in the gateways. Keeping the strongholds out is a way of life and not a quick fix. When you are aware of sin in your life, deal with it as quickly as possible. Become alert to the Holy Spirit working in your life. This often starts as a conviction. Spend time strongly praying in tongues to maintain the level of the flow of the spirit.
Isaiah 11:2 talks about the seven spirits of God. If you have an understanding of this, it can be useful to have them help you to get cleansed. However, you must be careful that you are not speaking to similar spirits from the occult.
When praying, it can be useful to build scriptural pictures in the imagination. That can help keep your mind from wandering. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12
In cleansing out gateways, we are struggling against our flesh so much as we are struggling against unclean spirits.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! 1 John 3:1
Remember the Body Gateways
The main gateways are:
- Touch
- Taste
- Smell
- Sight
- Hearing.
Now unto the Soul Gateways
There are 7 and they are as follows: Our Conscience, Choice, Mind, Imagination, Reason, Emotions, and Will. Now in the secular world what does that sound like to you? To me it would all sound like my mind and my heart. But I would be wrong. That is the easy answer. The Biblical answer is much more complex than that. So we are going to tear this down and see if God can help us understand a little bit better. Let’s start with our;
♦ Conscience: Your conscience is part of your human psyche (your mind). God created it when he gave you the abilities of self-awareness and rational thinking. Notice that it’s spelled with two words, con and science. Science comes from the Latin Scire (ski-ret) meaning “knowledge,” and con means “with.” So, you’re thinking with knowledge. What knowledge? The value system you have been taught. Simply stated, your conscience recalls what you have accepted as right or wrong.
Your conscience reacts subconsciously, “under your knowledge.” You are not aware of it until you do something related to what you have been taught. It gives you good feelings when you agree with what you know to be right. But, it can give you bad feelings when you do that which you know to be wrong. It is not true that a bad person “has no conscience.” He has a conscience, but not everyone’s conscience reflects the same values. Your conscience is trained by what you believe, and it changes as your knowledge and values change.
Socially speaking, our conscience is trained by our parents, our schooling, our peers, and our circumstances. Later we design our own values by what we want to accomplish in life. In addition, in Romans 2:14-15: Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. Paul teaches that God has put knowledge of himself and of basic right or wrong in every person. Therefore, everyone is “without excuse” (Romans 1:20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Thru everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.).
When people go against their God-given understanding that abusing a fellow human is wrong, Paul says in 1 Timothy 4:2 (These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead) sin has seared their conscience.
When a person is exposed to Bible study and hears what is right or wrong, his mind builds a value system. When that person becomes saved, the Holy Spirit, then dwelling within him, draws on his Biblical values to convince him of right or wrong. Hebrews 9:14 (Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins). So the blood of Christ (think about communion) not only saves us, but it cleanses our conscience so we understand what honors God. We call that our Christian conscience. To fail to obey our Christian conscience is sin (James 4:17 Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.)
Choice
We have the choice to do something or not. The choice gateway can be affected by the heredity of our forefathers. Faith declaration of scripture is an important part of rebuilding and energizing this gateway. Once the choice is made to do something, the work begins to bring it about. Paul writes in Romans 7:18 The things I want to do I don’t and the things I don’t want to do I do.By releasing the flow of God through your choice faculty, you begin to make the right choices. The conscience is linked to the choice gateway. The conscience is the voice that says “I shall” or “I shall not”. We make choices everyday like what I will wear, where I will go, how I will spend my money, etc. If God is at our Gate of Choice from the time we get up until we go back to sleep, then we have to think that we are making good Choices.
Mind
This is a BIG Gate that needs a Watchman at all times. There are 3 doors to the mind:
- Conscious memories
Bondage can be here — usually through some sort of control.
Jesus must control our conscious mind - Subconscious memories
Some people call this “thought that is covered by a veil”.
Sometimes powerful demons reside over the subconscious mind - Unconscious memories
Activities & actions that we do without conscious thought.
In this area are images, situations and actions that have taken place that we do not remember.
We must remember that it is so important what we see in Scripture that the mind is the gateway to the heart Ephesians (4:23-25) 23:Have a new mind and heart.
24 Be a new person. That new person has been made like God. He does what is right and holy because he knows the truth. 25 So stop telling lies. Tell the truth to each other. We all are parts of the same body.
In renewing our mind, we control the thoughts that go into our heart.
Romans 12:2 Do not copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
The mind controls so much of us that science can’t even map it. They have called it the Ultimate Computer. Only God could design such a marvel. It is then your job to protect the mind at all times. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
As a side note, Science has proven the myth to be false that we only use 10% of our brain. We use all of our brain all of the time. It comes down to what we are doing as to how much we use at any given time or task. Our question has to be, Are we using our mind to its fullest potential?
Letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Romans 8:7
The only way to have a real life is to let Christ control our mind. Please remember that, Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12.
Imagination – Philippians 4:8 Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.
A good way to control the imagination is to immediately quote Philippians 4:8 whenever an ungodly imagination shows up in your Soul Gate. After that you can ask the Lord to remove the image that caused the imagination to start working. When we think of someone in a way that would defile the Word of God we are using our imagination in the wrong way. If we covet our neighbor and imagine ourselves living in their house or driving their vehicle and desire it, we aging are using our imagination in the wrong way. However if we sit and imagine what it was like when Jesus had to walk from city to city or what Heaven must be like, then we are not abusing this part of our Soul.
Reason
The Bible Dictionary describes reason as, the faculty of the mind through which we can logically come to rational conclusions.

James 3:17 ESV But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
Reason is that part of us that is the logical aspect of our Soul. It is based on upbring, education, church and has a lot to do with your Faith. When we Reason about a situation we pull in so much information from so many areas it is almost overwhelming to think about all that is taking place at one time. This happens sometimes in a matter of seconds. How awesome is our God?
Contrary to many people’s first reaction, God actually urges, “Come now, and let us reason together” (Isaiah 1:18). Abraham reasoned with God concerning the city of Sodom, and as a result God promised He would not destroy it if there were only ten righteous people there. Moses reasoned with God concerning the rebellious Israelites. God wanted to destroy them for their idolatry, but changed His mind because of Moses’ intercession. How much more can we Reason with Our Heavenly Father now that we are covered in the Blood of His Son. Reason is NOT arguing it is the logical way of communicating our thoughts and desires to God and one another.
Emotions
Proverbs 12:15 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
God gave us our feelings and emotions for a reason. Living by faith doesn’t mean we ignore them. They are not evil by themselves, but what we allow our thoughts to dwell on may be negative and causing an unhealthy overload of negative emotions. We have such a huge responsibility when it comes to our emotions. Think about just a few that impact our lives daily; Anger, Love, Hated, Joy, Peace, Depression, Aggression, Contentment, Sadness, Bitterness, I could go on and on. We have to protect this Gate and have a realization of our Emotions at all time. If I feel depression taking hold of me it is my job to call out for help before it is too late. IF anger is leading my life as a result of and offense, then I must pray and seek the Lord or again call out for help. Is it easy? No. Can it be done? Yes. Why would God tell us in His Word,

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus
This is a tough area of our Soul Gate and should be prayed about on a regular basis. Something like this: God teach me how to control my emotions in all situations. I want to be slow to anger and slow to wrath. I want to be quick to listen as Your Word tells me. I am weak in this area and I cry out for Your help. Please Lord hear this prayer and guide me every day in your ways. Amen
The Will
The will says “I will” or “I will not”. A person may be under the control of a spirit or a dominating person in their life. In that case the will is being controlled by an ungodly influence. Our will must be crucified and put to death so that we can do the will of God. I really don’t need to say anything more than what Paul writes in Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
To become holy our will gateway must become submitted to the kingdom of heaven. We must know the will of God for our lives. Much of that can be found in the Word of God. Reading the Word of God allows revelation of God’s will for our lives to flow from our spirit gateway into the will gateway and into the actions of the body gateways.
We have to take possession of each of our 7 gateways and place Christ in the centre of them.
- Pray for the gateways, especially conscience:
- Acknowledge your sin and take responsibility for not guarding the gate
- Repent for allowing demonic spirits access to the gateways
- Ask God to remove the images from your memories
- Take the blood of Jesus and apply it to the infected areas of your Soul Gates thus wiping the area clean
Spirit Gateways
OK here we go a quick summary: We first spoke about the Body Gates: Touch, Taste, Smell, Hearing, and Sight. We then built the next section of our Bridge by looking at our Soul Gates which were: Our Conscience, Choice, Mind, Imagination, Reason, Emotions, and Will. Now we will build the last section of our Bridge and reach our goal. Our Goal should be to achieve the best possible Christ like person we could be.
This Bridge is one that will need constant work and maintenance. When they paint the world famous Mighty Mac from one end to the other it is a never ending project. Once they get to one end they are already starting back at the beginning and so on. This is our responsibility when it comes to our Gateways. Remember these are at the very foundation of our Christian walk. Review these teachings when you feel stuck or better yet do your own. Research the Gateways on your own. This makes for a great self study or maybe a family study. It works well in small groups and you can ask other people in the group to teach on a different Gateway each week and have open discussions on that Gateway.
Ok now onto the final step in the completion of our bridge and that is our Spirit Gates.
There are Eight gateways through which the presence of God can come into our spirit:
Revelation, Intuition, Fear of God, Prayer, Reverence, Faith, Hope, and Worship.
In order to move in greater realms of authority, it is necessary to flow through all of these gateways. Studies have shown that most Christians move in only two or three of these Gateways.
Think of a person using only a few muscles in their body. They will eventually become deformed or even paralyzed and be unable to move on their own. Think of your walk with Christ and how this could slow you down if not even stall or cripple you.
The Word tells us in Hebrews 4:12 The Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart
In this scripture we see our Bridge with the Word affecting the Body then the Soul and the Spirit. So with that said our Bridge summary so far is; you need the Glory of God to penetrate your spirit so that your soul can be changed. You need to change your body so that it is submissive to your soul. When our soul is dominant over our spirit, our spirit is in bondage. Remember the Soul Gates which were: Our Conscience, Choice, Mind, Imagination, Reason, Emotions, and Will. Romans8:12~13 says;12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
- Revelation
- What is the biblical meaning of revelation? 1a : an act of revealing or communicating divine truth. b : something that is revealed by God to humans. 2a : an act of revealing to view or making known. b : something that is revealed especially : an enlightening or astonishing disclosure shocking revelations.
- Revelation in our case is God given inspiration, light, counsel, and wisdom. We need to activate these senses. They do not just automatically switch on. We need to be hungry and thirsty, desiring them at all times.
- If someone gives you a gift like a new car and then after a few weeks you loose the keys, the gift is still there you just aren’t usng it. After a while the car will need new tires from dry rot and may not run at all due to bad gas and a dead battery. The longer it sits unsed the worse it gets. However with a little hard work a care the car can be up and running in no time.
- Revelation is a God given Gift that we must protect and use so that the enemy can’t cloud God’s light or inspiration in our walk with Him.
- Intuition
- Intuition is our gut feelings, instinct, and knowing. This is how the Holy Spirit reveals the Father’s heart to us. This gets back to our Spiritual training and how we prepare ourselves to handle Life. Our Intuition should be like that of a well trained marital artist or combat solider. When the enemy is in our midst and is ready to attack we should not think how to harm him but how we can deflect his blows.
- What was Peter’s Intuition like in John 18:10 – “Simon Peter therefore having a sword drew it, and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. Now the servant’s name was Mal-cus.” We all have a little bit of Peter in us. Who knows what you or I would have done? What if the Military walked into an area you were at with your Pastor and they tried to take him away? What is your first thought? Draw your weapon or wait upon the Lord as He has taught us to do?
- Well trained Christians know the Will of the Father and the Son as the Son walked among us and showed us Love and Compassion for our fellow man. We again need to guard this gate so that our anger and fear does not run our thoughts. Ephesians 3:14~18 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
- In those 4 verses Paul tells us how we are to be filled up so that our Gut Instinct must be that of Christ.
- Fear of God – Simply put it is not to be afraid of our God in Heaven but instead have the knowing and understanding of His great Power and Love for all of us. To fear God is to be in awe of Him and know and respect Him above all things. Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. We must keep this Gate locked and protected at all times lest we forget whom we serve and why.
- Prayer – This should be self evident to all of us that are saved. Our Prayer Gate is our entrance to speak to our Heavenly Father and ask that which He desires or petition Him for our desires. Our Prayer Gate is so very special and priceless above all other Gates that we have been speaking of. We have to be able to come to Our Father and speak with Him at all times in all areas of our daily lives. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
- Reverence is Honoring and respecting God. We will do nothing that will bring His Name into disrepute or dishonor. We will seek to bring honor to Him in all things at all times. 1 Samuel 12:24 Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.
Also in Exodus 20:7 You shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
- Faith – Hebrews 11:11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. I hope the sun will reappear in Michigan one day and when it does my Faith is made whole because I see it and feel its warmth. With God His Word tells us in Philippians 1:6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ
- Hope – Ephesians 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called. Whose Hope are we talking about? Our Hope is in the Lord. Isaiah 40:31But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Having this kind of Hope is a lot different than hoping that your favorite team wins on Sunday. Let us not ever lose our Hope Gate to the enemy or we will surely give up on life and the Love that we have for God. - Worship – What does it mean to Worship the Lord? Is it simply to sing Praises unto Him on Sunday morning in church or to sing to Him while you’re driving or at home? Is it to honor His Name during a time of fasting? Is it when we study the Word to show ourselves worthy unto Him? It is all of this and more. Our first thought should be to Love God at all times and making Him the first thought of our day and the last thought before we sleep. The Bible says in; Romans 12:1-2 ~ 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
I am so blessed to have had the time to share with all of you the building of this Bridge to help us all in our Christian walk. When you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you begin a journey that has a lot of responsibility. Dying to self each day so the He that is in us is greater than he that is in the world, is not an easy task. We have received so many gifts and powers that others don’t have. Remember where much is given much is required. We cannot think that are Gates can be left open and unattended or the Enemy will surely walk in and take up a place of power. My recommendation is that everyone should go through a deliverance session at least once in their lives. Some wont out of fear others disbelief. Some will to test it and others will run to it. Jesus did it for many and their lives were forever changed for the better, they were FREE and whom the Son sets free is free indeed.
