Persevere defined, is to persist in or remain constant in purpose, idea, or task in the face discouragement or opposition. I remember pestering my father about the need of a basketball hoop when I was younger. It wasn’t coming as quickly as I had hoped. So I cut the bottom out of a bushel basket and hung it by the handle off the roof of the garage. Soon a basketball backboard was put up so I could pursue my passion of the summer. Being right handed I was determined I could learn a hook shot with my left hand. It was my summertime project. The experience did have its rewards. I made the basketball team in the 8th grade.
It seems the LORD loves perseverance too. Remember Noah? A boat under construction in the front yard for how many years? Persistence. Then think about Joseph and the hurdles in his life. An overcoming spirit was God’s gift to him. How about Moses? Huge task. The constant companionship of God carried him through discouragement. That’s a start. There are many more persevering people highlighted in Scripture. Do encourage yourself as you review some of them. It will give you a renewed conviction that you too are able to honor the LORD with your dogged determination to pursue His call on your life.
Thank You, God, all glory be to You. By your mighty power at work within us You accomplish infinitely more than we ever dare to ask or hope. We praise You and adore You! Thank You for inspiring an overcomer’s spirit within me. Amen
