What does God really want us to do? Let’s look again at the first and great commandment! Jesus said in Matthew 22:37-38, quoting Deuteronomy 6:5:“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength.” And the second commandment is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself! Mark 12:31 says “There is no other commandment greater than these.”
From these Scriptures we know that we are to love God with all our being–every part of ourselves! It is always worth asking whether we are doing this with full devotion/dedication. Have we really put Him first?
Do we allow our entire being to love and adore and worship Him? And in turn is our whole being loving Him with all our strength? This word “strength” is the word ischus meaning to do it with force, with all your ability, with your might, with all your power! True, deep, passionate love goes to all ends to delight the One who is loved!
Lord, we love You, and we give all to do this, as we live out our lives for You in our time. Make us blazing fires for You, our God! And then, Lord, we ask You to help us to burn for our brothers and sisters, ablaze with Your passionate fire for them, pouring out our lives sacrificially for all You have created!
