40 Day Prayer Fast Devotional Day 40 -Justice and Mercy

This  devotional  was written 10/21/11.  The horror of the death of Libya’s Gaddhafi  happened  yesterday, October 20.
Justice, according to the dictionary, is the principle or ideal of moral rightness.  It means conforming to moral rightness in conduct or attitude.  Justice is upholding what is right and lawful.   Justice means fair treatment or punishment in accordance with honor, standards, or law.  It is the quality of being fair or impartial.  Justice is the administration and procedure of law.  How does this apply now?  What is the Biblical worldview for the situation in Libya? Is wanton violence and chaos the answer?

Will the demonstrations in New York City be a precipitating cause for turmoil in our land?  Will it lead to violence and chaos? What is right and lawful?  America has a call to a great destiny –“ to be a city set on a hill to give light to the nations”.*  Will we be able to rise to our destiny?  How will we be able to do that?  Will we seek the LORD for His direction?  Or, will we follow the whims of our own hearts?  Our response will dictate our future.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.” (Psalm 33:12).  “…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.” (II Chronicles 7:14)

The LORD is full of mercy, which is kindness and compassion.  Our God is forgiving and kind. Praise the LORD, He knows how to set His standards and offer forgiveness.  He is both Justice and Mercy.   We should be on guard that America is not lead down a path of violence as Libya seems to be.   Are we at our nation’s moral crossroad?  Years ago in the Judean wilderness John the Baptist called his nation to “Turn from your sins and turn to God…”, (Matthew 3:2) LORD, we do not want to miss Your call to us.  Your Justice and Mercy demands our attention. We covenant with You to listen as You speak Your message of repentance and return to each one of us.
Father God, we approach Your throne of justice and mercy with contrite hearts.  We have followed our own desires and willfully opposed Your instruction.  We bow in humble repentance asking Your forgiveness.  LORD, spare us from chaos and violence.  Give us a desire to do the right.  Keep us lawful.  Help us fulfill our call.  We honor You and call for Your Kingdom to come and Your will to be done here in our lives on earth as it is in heaven.  We pray in the Name above all names, Jesus Christ our Savior and LORD.  Amen
