Legislative Update and Further Call to Action

THANK YOU to each of you who reached out to your senators and representatives regarding SB4 (the bill that expands protections under the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include sexual preference, gender identity, and gender expression). We want to give you an update on this bill and we also want to inform you of other ways the Democrats are attempting to violate our God-given rights.

Multiple pieces of gun grab legislation have been introduced in the wake of the Michigan State University shooting that occurred last week. Democrats are capitalizing on this tragedy and are using it as an excuse to violate our rights and gain even more political power. With radical Democrats running all three branches of Michigan’s government, the people are the last line of defense in this situation. We must stay engaged and continue to be vocal.

SB4 UPDATE
Due to the shooting at Michigan State University, the vote for SB4 was postponed until this week. The severe ice storm that we experienced yesterday resulted in a further postponing of the vote for this bill. As far as we know, the vote will be taken when the Senate meets next week. This works in our favor, as this gives us more time to call and insist that an amendment be added to this bill that protects religious freedom/conscience.

It is vital that we continue to call our senators over the next few days and let them hear the voice of the people regarding this issue.

NEW GUN GRAB LEGISLATION Democrats are capitalizing on the recent tragedy at Michigan State University, using it as an opportunity to introduce and pass gun grab legislation. Multiple bills have been introduced (SB83-86 – Red Flag Law, AKA Due Process Violation, SB76-78 – De Facto Universal Gun Registration, and SB79 & SB80 – Gun Storage Criminalization) that infringe on our inalienable right to self-defense. We must speak out against this.

CALL TO ACTION We are asking that you contact your senator/representative and express your disapproval regarding these new bills. Once you do this, we are asking that you contact the senators/representatives who are from swing districts around the state. The individuals that represent swing districts will be incredibly sensitive to voting on controversial issues like guns. Because of this, your voice will hold a lot of weight. We want it to be known that there is far more opposition to these bills than there is support.

Below, you will find a step-by-step list that outlines how to contact your senators/representatives regarding these bills. You will also find a list of all the senators/representatives from swing districts below.

Exercise your NO muscle! It is important to speak out to oppose this invasion of your rights. Speaking out does make a difference. Remember that senators/representatives from swing districts are people like us and they absolutely do fear losing their seats. You need to clearly and calmly inform them that these invasions of your rights will not be tolerated. Prioritize phone calls as it is the most effective method, but please email as well. For just a little time spent you can make a big difference. You will find a sample letter below that you can use when emailing.

Please use this letter as a template. Make sure to change the name of the senator/representative you are emailing. Don’t make excuses. Don’t put it off. It should only take 25 minutes to make the calls and 5 additional minutes to email the letter. Please commit to letting others in your life know about this. Forward this email and post this information on social media. Stay involved. It didn’t take one day for us to get in this situation and it’ll take more than one day to correct it.

Hello {Senator/Representative} {Name},   It has come to my attention that a raft of gun control bills is coming before the Michigan Legislature in the coming week(s). These bills present clear intent to strip fundamental rights from myself and all other Michiganders. In effect, these proposed acts punish the innocent for the actions of the guilty.   The use of legislative powers to restrict and repress our fundamental rights violates the public trust. For these reasons I oppose these bills and I ask you to vote no.   I have pledged to inform every one of my friends, family members, acquaintances, and colleagues of this issue and the resulting votes; and will ask that they remove their support from any legislator who votes in the affirmative.   This is a core issue for me and I will remain involved as long as necessary. I await the results with great interest.   Sincerely, {Name} {Phone Number} {Email Address}
