Wisdom/Understanding: Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
We aren’t talking about literally being afraid of God in the way one may fear an evil person intending them harm, but in the sense of a young child with a Father, who means what He says and says what He means. I have been concerned that some in our generation and the one right before ours has lost the reverential fear of God. Some have become lackadaisical and even presumptuous in their approach toward heavenly things, the throne room, and even The Lord Himself. This verse tells us that fearing the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. In other words it’s the first thing, first requirement, to even begin the journey to walking in wisdom.
Do you still reverently fear the Lord, or have you gotten overly familiar with Him, forgetting who He is. He is Abba Father, the lifter of our heads yes, but He is also the creator of the Universe, God Almighty, the Alpha and Omega, Creator of Heaven and earth, King of Kings, and Namer of the stars. He created everything we know and understand and that which we haven’t even begun to be able to discover with a simple word. That should command our attention, our respect, a little awe. May God protect us from over familiarity with Him and the scriptures.
Prayer: Oh Holy, perfect, and Mighty King. Our perfect Father, thank you for the privilege of being in relationship with you. Thank you for creating us with such care and detail. Thank you for continuing to be patient with us and the world that many might hear and turn from their wicked ways and be saved. Thank you for the beauty that you created to draw us to yourself, to remind us of our smallness, and your eternal excellence. How we long to know you more. Reveal yourself anew to us again this week. You are beyond complete exploration. Grace us to fear you….as Jesus did…hearing and doing, seeing and joining you in your work. In Jesus gracious name..Amen and Amen!
