Hello Mr. Ryan Berman,
The Michigan Oak Initiative and the MI Coalition for Freedom are “Grassroots” organizations who hold to a governmental Biblical Worldview. Both organizations have many connections throughout Michigan and they desire to be an informational conduit. We see the importance of this upcoming Attorney General election for our state. Would you respond to the questions below? We need to know the exact positions each candidate holds on issues that we are being challenged in our great State of Michigan. Much is at stake for our families and future generations. We appreciate your response!
ATTORNEY GENERAL SCORECARD!
1. The matter of election integrity is a chief concern of many Michigan voters on the heels of the widely-debated outcome of the 2020 election. What is the importance of surrounding the need for conducting a forensic audit and what value does it hold for the people of Michigan?
I believe that we need to find out what happened, so it doesn’t get repeated in the future. Detroit hired more than 31 times as many Democrats as Republicans to work the polls in 2020, when it’s supposed to be equal numbers from each party to ensure the election is administered fairly. A thorough investigation will uncover and reveal what happened.
2. What actions have you taken since the contention has been raised that the election was fraudulent on November 4, 2020.
I’ve fought for election integrity. Rather than chase headlines, my office and I have been doing the quiet work of helping secure our elections.
- In December 2020, I signed on to letters calling for a forensic audit and consistently supported such efforts
- I voted for a subpoena of election records to help the legislature’s investigation
- I submitted a budget amendment to authorize and pay for a Comprehensive
Statewide Election Integrity Review, even broader than a full forensic audit.
- I have been lobbying leadership to move the audit bill forward by giving it a
hearing.
- My office was at TCF the day after the election, documenting and helping with
election integrity efforts
- My office directed people to attorneys who then filed affidavits and also worked
directly with the Trump election attorneys.
- My office also helped record and produce video affidavits from witnesses of
election law violations and voter fraud.
- I sponsored a bill that was ultimately vetoed by the governor that was part of requiring voter ID.
- I understand how Detroit operates because I’ve spent several cycles
there as an election day attorney. If you wait until after election day, it’s almost impossible to stop any fraud. As Attorney General, I would be proactive in securing our elections. If Nessel wins again, she will ignore Michigan’s election laws, just as she did in 2020.
The issue with the elections appears not to be the machines but massive injections of private funds into city governments into Democratic areas to spike turnout as well as with the flouting of election law due to COVID.
3. We are right at the two-year mark of the COVID-19 pandemic in this country resulting in controversial mask mandates and vaccine requirements. Where do you stand on these sanctions and in what direction will you take Michigan if elected as the next Attorney General?
I will remove any mandates and let Michiganders choose for themselves.
4. What actions have you taken these past 2 years to defend personal/religious freedoms for MI citizens regarding Mask mandates and Vaccine requirements?
- I voted in favor of repealing the emergency powers of the governor
- I pushed Republicans in 2020 not to approve the mandates.
- I voted against the budget giving Whitmer the funds needed to continue these unconstitutional policies.
- I submitted HB5710 which makes vaccination status a civil rights condition
5. Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s solution to the pandemic was to enforce a statewide lockdown. What has been your response to this lockdown and do you find it to be in the best interests of Michiganders?
I have always been against the lockdown. Early on, it became clear these policies were not just unlawful, but also ineffective. States like Florida that opened up did not see accompanying spikes in COVID. Gov. Whitmer’s policy early on should have been to protect the vulnerable while letting healthy individuals live their lives. Instead, she hurt the vulnerable by shunting sick people into nursing homes while killing thousands of small businesses in the state.
6. What literal actions have you taken these past 2 years for the freedoms of MI citizens regarding lockdowns?
I voted against Whitmer’s emergency power all times with resolutions. I signed on to calls for impeachment investigations. I voted against giving her the funds to carry out her orders. I voted against extending the lockdown. I forced the house to sue Whitmer and the Supreme Court ruled her mandates unconstitutional. I sponsored a resolution opposing her nursing home policies.
7. Traditional conservatives advocate for pro-life initiatives and support the Second Amendment and the Right to Bear Arms. Where do your beliefs fall on the conservative spectrum regarding these issues?
I am pro-life and pro-gun. I am an NRA certified instructor and range safety officer, NRA Benefactor Life member, and golden eagle member. While in law school I won 2nd place in the NRA’s national law student essay contest. I’m likely the biggest second amendment supporter you’ll meet.
8. What literal actions have you taken these past number years to defend Life in the Womb and the Second Amendment?
You can check my voting record. I voted against abortion and for less restrictions on our second amendment rights. As an Attorney, I’ve defended clients charged with bogus weapon violations, and brought actions against local government for return of improperly seized firearms. I’ve taught many concealed pistol training courses, and the legal portion for other instructors.
9. Recently, many school districts have elected to begin teaching Critical Race Theory in our schools. Where do you stand on this subject being added to our children’s educational curriculum?
I voted against CRT in our schools. The house adopted my amendment to HB 5097 to strengthen the bill. In the district I represent, one school district was having children do privilege walks and was teaching them they were intrinsically racist. I’ve denounced that nonsense. My wife is a teacher, and we have children in school, so this issue is incredibly important.
10. What literal actions have you taken these past 2 years to stand up against this assault on parents/children and our schools?
I’ve used my position to disseminate the message within the media. I’ve worked with parent groups and other representative’s offices to develop legislation on curriculum transparency so that every parent can know what their children are learning in school.
11. Across the nation and in Michigan, we see much exposure regarding sexual impropriety. What is the responsibility of any Attorney General regarding handling these accusations? Were you previously aware of the Chatfield situation that has been in the news?
I was not aware, and our current AG is investigating.
I have a bill package – Empowering Survivors, which brings justice for many of the survivors of Dr. Robert Anderson’s sexual assaults at UofM. I stand with survivors to ensure justice.
12. What percentage of your donor base would be considered corporate or lobbyist donors and what percentage is from the grassroots?
An extremely small percentage would be considered lobbyist donors, and even in that case those donations stem primarily from previous relationships before office. I think voting records and past actions are the best indicator of how people will act, and my record is one of putting transparency first in government.
13. If elected AG will you hold people accountable in this present administration who have broken the law regarding election improprieties in this past election?
Yes
Thank you for your response,
Mark Gurley
